Hey, thanks Spock1. I reckon thats the way to do it - at least then your not potentially going to damage something trying to do it yourself. Thanks for going to the effort of finding that out for us .

Pleasure AussieHemi.

I figure the factory option will look correct with the letter A to indicate the auto feature. I'd rather my car was as neatly modified as possible.

You planning to do the mod?

Yeah, I definitely think i will do it. I pick up my car in about 4 weeks. There is so much i want to do to it i don't know where to start!
This might sound like a stupid question, but how does it work? Is there some sort of ambient light sensor in the car that is activated by this mod?
Cheers,
Shane

Not stupid at all. There's a plastic dome on the top of the dashboard near the base of the windscreen. Apparently this reads the ambient light level and activates the lights when it reaches a preset level. The level can be adjusted from the EVIC so you can ensure the lights come on when you feel it's sufficiently dark.

What are the other mods on your list?

the commodore's have this feature standard and i personally liked it. will be doing it again with the 300, provided it looks ok and works like is being described. i might wait till someone gets it installed, then come and take a look..

Update from the UK

One of our UK members who works at a DC dealership has told me that doing the mod on a UK car will invalidate the warranty regarding the Xenon headlights and that if you are going to do it, to set the EVIC light setting to a higher number so that the lights don't come on until it is darker.

Other contributors have said thet they have NEVER come across any problems from ANY forum member for doing the mod.

So you pays your money $145.15, or you do it for nowt.

I have managed to do it without leaving any mark whatsoever. For me it was worth doing. For yourself, only you can answer?

Hi Murphy,

How did you take off the knob? I tried pull the knob VERY hard but it would not move at all...and I scratched the knob a bit...

Any tips how to remove it?

Cheers

Hi bezita

I used a flat head screwdriver directly opposite the whitemark and applied steady downward pressure whilst "wiggling" the know free. After a bit if effort, it clicks to the first detent setting, carefully put the screwdriver in a bit deeper, and repeat. It should pop out.

I found a 3-5mm screwdriver to work well, and slow staedy pressure to be better than giving it some welly.
