Melbourne members - insurance help please!

Hi guys,

I know there have been other threads in regards to insurance but i don't know if anyone can help me here. I'm 33yo and my fiance is 23yo !
My problem is that no one will insure the car because she is under 25. The only people who will are Shannons. They have quoted me $2280 with agreed value and $500 excess. I know it would be much cheaper if it was just me on the policy, but my fiance will drive it occasionally and I can't take that risk. Does anyone know of any other insurance companies who will insure me with a driver under 25. Please help!!

Shane

Shane, have you tried Just Car Insurance?

http://www.justcarinsurance.com.au/

I thought CGU might give you a reasonable deal with just high excess in the event of a bingle with the younger driver? Not sure tho

I agree rolin. Personally I would have to be very hard pressed to do business with any of those companies associated with AAMI - (Shannons included) and they are all part of the same company, Promina (?).

But if there were no other options, wellll.....

Hi John,

Yeh I did try Just Car Insurance - they are about $900 cheaper but their excess is $3900!!! There is no chance i will insure with someone with an excess that high. CGU were the same - wouldn't do it because she is under 25. I guess i'm stuck with Shannons - that's OK i guess, they are really nice on the phone and at least they offer agreed value and you can do whatever mods you like (as long as they are roadworthy). It's more than i wanted to spend - but hey, the things we do for love!!

I've been going through the insurance exercise for the SRT8. I presently pay $1,065 for the GT-P with CGU and have quotes from Shannons ($1,966); Ford Insure ($1,667) and am waiting for CGU to work out what it actually is!

Quotes are for Rating 1, 47 & 39 y.o nominated drivers, garaged in a good suburb of Melbourne and parked in an off street corporate car park during the day.

Will keep you guys updated.

Russ
