Fuel Economy

My first tank in my srt8 i ended up with 29ltrs/100km, but I was tramping it everywhere (running in the motor ). Since then I have averaged somewhere between 18-21ltrs/100kms, mostly city type driving with the occasional tramp.
But yesterday i ventured down to bannockburn near geelong to see how my 25% owned rising 2yo pacer was going, and amazingly i got 9.8ltrs/100kms! Couldn't believe it, i didn't think it was possible. Had it on cruise around 102km/hr all the way. The average went up to 10.8ltr/100km by the time we stopped and started driving through geelong etc, but still, i was more than happy.

Any feedback on what other people are getting? I'm interested...

Hi Dom,

In my "regular" Hemi, since I have owned it (5700km now) i am averaging 13.8l/100km which I think is pretty amazing. I like tramping it every oppurtunity I get as well, particulary now that I have the Magnaflow's fitted! The best i have had it on a freeway run at 100km/h was 8.9l/100km for a brief moment. I am very happy with my fuel economy considering the size and weight of the car. But hey, if your worried about fuel economy, you shouldn't be driving this car!!!!!!!

My first SRT8 tank averaged 16.5ltrs/100klms and I "hoofed" it as suggested. Clearly not as much as Dom. There was a trip to Sandhurst and back though. I would estimate that figure was on 80% city driving. Now sitting on 18ltrs/100...

I wonder if the figures will ease once the engine has a few klms on it?

My fuel economy on trips in both HEMI 57 and SRT 61 has been well documented here on the Forum.

As I mentioned previously, in my personal experience, the 6.1 uses about 0.5 Litre more per 100 Kilometres than the 5.7. That to me is an amazing statistic considering the MDS.

The other stand-out for me is the significantly lower fuel usage at 100 Klm/hr than at 110 Klm/hr. Like Dom, I too have had SRT 61 showing a trip average of below 10 lt/100.

I personally reckon Chrysler should have a low Diff ratio so the engine is doing lower revs at highway speeds.

My Hemi is Av 14.2L/100km and i normally drive around the city of Sydney.

I don't know that much about the 4/8 drop down system.(can anyone explaing at howmany rpm it kicks in?) But i'm assuming I only ever use 4 cylinders as I haven't really had much of a chance to open it up in the small streets of the city.

I've just discovered a reason why my figures are so bad! I warm up the car every morning for 5 mins, and when i get in the economy is up around 80 or 100 per 100kms!
I tried resetting my counter this morning as i pulled out, and to my surprise it was sitting on 15ltrs/100kms by the time i got to work. Normal driving.
Much happier now.
