John keep in touch with me about your mods, if your get a CAI and exhaust i might just piggy back an order on yours to save on shipping! So don't order before you talk to me ok dude!
Ummm Dom, not sure I can accommodate you piggybacking on me, I am planning on picking up some items when I am in the US next month and I already plan to max out my luggage limits. Sorry mate.

Don't get me wrong. I really love the car. My father and I are extremely excited about the delivery and to be able to cruise together, father and son, him with SRT8 and me 5.7 HEMI. I was only raising those negatives in reviews as a logical approach for myself to consider when modifying. I guess, follow the "if it ain't broke, why fix it" approach. Then again, it can be argued that all cars that roll off the factory floor don't require "fixing".
You are definately right in that I must be "wise" in my modification approach and to put in the back of my mind that a SRT8 is ~$12,000 on top of the 5.7 HEMI model/version.
I am definately not after a SRT8 replica. That is plain silly.
In terms of the 5.7 HEMI drivetrain, how does it go front a straight line perspective? It is been quoted at 6.4 seconds for the 0-100kmh sprint. That is pretty impressive in the scheme of things. The reason why I see am curious is because I have read that the 5.7 LS1 found in earlier model HSVs produce good results and respond well if in the right tuner's hands. For example, Amberley Autos have this package http://www.hp-f.com.au/product+detai...keywords=&pg=1
Again, I probably need to do more research but would I be wrong to assume that the 5.7 HEMI in the 300C is very similar to that found in say the VX Commodore SS?
Again, I have already learnt a great deal from all your posts.
Cheers,

DC300C How about you save the cost of mods.... and fuel during the week

Hi all,
Before I go on, I thought I would use my name instead of DC300C. My name is Bernard.
Last night, Shane kindly drove to my area around 7.45pm to take me for a ride in his Chrysler 300C 5.7 HEMI. The reason behind the visit was to experience what this MDS drone is all about. As you all know, Shane has a Magnaflow cat-back exhaust system fitted.
WOW! What can I say! It looks fantastic! The finish of the steel is awesome!. The size of the tips look fantastic and fill out the hole nicely. I love how the muffler can still be somewhat seen without being overly "in your face"...which is typical of Japanese rice burners who fit these cannon style mufflers with 5 inch tips.
In short, I loved the sound the car made during all different levels of throttle applications. Secondly, when Shane gave it the stick in a straight line from standstill, it really get up and boogied all the way to the redline. The sound is what I called "syrupy". It really unleashed that beautiful HEMI drivetrain.
For a car that weighs greater than 1.8tonnes, it moved well. I am not sure whether the car is say quicker than say other V8 competition from the likes of a BA Ford XR8 or VY Commodore SS. But, it really felt strong in the middle rev range and the shifts from the 5 speed auto is seamless, beautiful.
Now...that MDS drone...well, yes I now know what that is. It is noticeable but I wouldn't say it is unbearable. Sitting in the front seat, it was fine. My wife was in the back seat and does admit that it can be annoying over long distance trips...but the conclusion was that when the tunes are played, this is not an issue. Given the car is for day-to-day driving where there is a combination of hills, bends etc the MDS system would not kick in that often...if at all. Maybe a constant cruise at 100kmh on the South Eastern freeway might be a different story but again, it didn't sound that annoying...
So yes, I have now placed an order for the system...well, at least put one aside...no financial commitment as yet.
I am planning to place an order for the K&N Air Filter kit.
My question is whether there are any other potential "worthwhile" upgrades to the 5.7 HEMI? Or should I just stop here and tie it together with a ECU tune. I have spoken to Dynomotive, which is also where I got my Nissan 350Z serviced not too long ago, and they will have a suitable programme to tune the latest Chryslers including the 300C.
By the way, and again by logic, we know that the famous LS1 Chev engines (5.7 V8) found in VT-VZ Commodore SS are serious performers in their own right. Amberley Autos have a Stage 1 kit for these engines. The kit has the following:
1 x Difiippo cat-back 2.5"" exhaust system Mandrel bent mild steel.
1 x K&N flat panel filter
1 x HSV 4"" MAF-T/Body Tube
1 x ECU - Flash scan reprogram
The kit is advertised to produce 310KW at the flywheel. That in my book is pretty serious mumbo. I know the stock flywheel figure is 255KW, so essentially we are looking at an approximately 20% flywheel power gain.
I am sensing that you guys are saying "Bernard!!!, please our engine is a HEMI!!!...do not compare it to anything else..."...hehe, I know guys...I am not...and I am going to be a proud and happy owner of a HEMI in less than 2 weeks time...
Well, my approach is very similar to that in the Stage 1 kit above, consisting of a Magnaflow cat-back system, a K&N air filter kit and a ECU tune (with appropriate software program at Dynomotive).

It was my pleasure to come around last night Bernard and meet yourself and your lovely wife. Hopefully (and by the sounds of it, it has) the drive has confirmed your impressions on the MagnaFlows.
This forum is all about helping our fellow members, and if we can, we will. One big happy family!!

If the boys at Dynomotive have the ability to tune the engine in a "rolling road" environment a 20% power increase may very well be possible. You certainly wont get it with a Magnaflow system, K&N filter and larger MAFTB tube.
I'd be curious to see what the Dynomotive guys can do. When will they have the programe?
Cheers
Sean

Hi Sean,
The tuner/boss at Dynomotive says the program will be received/available in the next few weeks. He says that they are waiting for the V.C.M Suite Program update and tune it like they tune the LS1s. He says that there is anywhere between 10-15% power to be realised on the ECU tune alone.
Cheers,
Bernard

Sounds like great news for us locals. You willing to be the guinea pig?

Hi all,
Hope you are all well and continuously enjoying your 300Cs
As you may be aware, I have been keeping close relations with Dynomotive. As much as I am very excited to be taking delivery of the car within the next week, I am also looking forward to personalising the car by way of modifications.
With a cat-back exhaust system and a ECU tune, Dynomotive is very very confident of achieving 285KW at the flywheel, and increases in torque as well. Even though our vehicle is relatively heavy, I am optimistic that this increase in power will be felt right across the rev range, and quicker times down the quarter mile.
However, the most restrictive aspect of the exhaust system is the headers and catalytic converters. With the headers and catalytic converters upgraded, Dynomotive is confident of 310KW at the flywheel.
Dynomotive advises that adding an upgraded filtration system by way of a K&N or Dub-Air system will not add that much power (as one might anticipate). But it will "complete" the bolt on package and yield the car a few more kilowatts and the car more responsive.
In terms of the ECU tune, the 300C is not able to be able to be tuned "MAFLESS". Dynomotive advises that the 300C does not have a MAP Sensor, it only have MAF. Whereas, the LS1 engines have both and hence they can be subject to MAFLESS tunes.
Either way, there is power gains to be had in the 5.7 HEMI, particularly if some goes down the route of having an intake upgrade, a FULL exhaust system and a ECU tune.
DC300C, thanks for the status update. I am sure that everyone is watching and wait for the results.
Have you or Dynomotive given any consideration as to what affect the mods will have on the MDS?
