Holy crap! They wash your car with salt water? Man that’s nasty stuff. I don’t believe I’ve seen that one pulled here during water restrictions. They usually leave the car wash people alone as it is their business. I would definitely not like a salt water bath for my ride.

AussieHemi, god for $7 - $8 you must be geting a work out running around the car.
I take the more relaxed approach, just feed all the coins in and walk around.
That may be why my wife keeps telling me to go and get some exercise, way too relaxed !
hahahaha - yeah, I'm pretty quick. Just a high pressure rinse, followed by the foaming brush for the wheels (ONLY the wheels - that thing doesn't touch the duco), high pressure soap, and then finish with the high pressure rinse. If the car is not too dirty this seems to work fine.

I take mine down to the local wash place all the time along with my own lambswool/wash mit. Soak it, high soap, wash mit, high soap again then high rinse and dry. Cost is about $12 but usually the guy just racks up some free credit when he sees me coming.

Are you guys in Melbourne permitted to use buckets to wash your cars at home? Thats the way we wash our cars in Syd unless your lucky enough to live in an area with recycled water.
This has really been playing on my mind John. Just after I went out and spent $200 bucks on a bloody high pressure cleaner for home too!
Do you know what car wash places DON'T use salt water? It brings tears to my eyes thinking I can't properly wash my car anymore. And you can't take your bucket and sponge to the commercial washes either - they all have signs now saying "no hand washing" - ie buckets and sponges. They just want you in and out real quick. Bloody hell - who is spending $20-30 bucks at one of these places! I can wash my car quickly and do a pretty good job for about $7-8 bucks. Good workout too!
Would also like to know if anyone knows of any that are salt free.

If it was not such a "seller's market", ie. they will be stormed with people once the water restrictions cut in, you could question them before deciding to take your business there. I bet they will be arrogant and say "take it or leave it"
Thank you for that info mate.....If i hadn't of seen this post I would of continued using them. I tell you though where is the incentive to do the right thing when doing the right thing ends up by costing you more.......

Damn it.....thanks for the heads up. Not real happy about that. Shouldn't they have some sort of signage notifying users (i'm dreaming if i think they would.... aren't I)

At present we can but as of Jan 1 we are only allowed to wash lights, mirrors and windows with a bucket and water. Absolutely no hosing allowed which is understandable considering the lack of rain and low water storage here. Although i thought Sydney's water levels were lower than Melbs. Ours is at 40% at present....whats Sydney at.
I have gone a few times when i had to to the brushless car wash and who knows what they use there as nothing touches the car except soap(XXX kind i suppose) and water..May be the bucket brigade for me now though
But i also heard some pressure washers (gernie ) will pump out of a bucket of water I will give it a try on the weekend....

There is a mains powered type that Supercheap auto sell. Basically you fill the supplied bucket, connect the pressure washer to it and away you go. I think they are around $80.00. I will now be looking into it further as i can't see why you couldn't use that. Would have to use less water than car lovers etc....
