Stage 3 Water Restrictions

Hi all,

I understand Stage 3 water restrictions will be in place, effective 1st January 2007, for the state of Victoria.

It is fair to say that we are all car enthusiasts and washing our car (300C) in order to keep the paintwork clean and in good condition is part and parcel of our passion.

I have always utilised the high pressure water units, washing my 300C under shade/in a cool place in the comfort of my own home.

My concern now is that because we are disallowed to wash our cars, I am seeking advice from you as to how the commercial cleaning places work, how much do they charge and potential damage it could cause to our paintwork (bearing in mind the state of their equipment and the fact that the car will be heated up when we make the trip out to the place from home.

Cheers,
DC300C

Hi DC300C,

I own a panel shop in mebourne and I have been told by south east water that even we are to aloud to use pressure washers for customers cars. (not happy as this is part of my business and could cost me money.)
As for the commercial cleaning places do not use their brushes as they scratch the paint work es. Black cars.

My advise would be take a bucket with you and only use the water there to wash of soap etc.

300c Hemi picking it up tonight, 22" Wheels in the morning, airbags next year with new grille
Maloo vz still for sale.

Troy

We have constant water restrictions where I live. However, my home is fairly remote so no one notices what I do with my water as I’m on a well system anyway. The people in the cities can get fines. Good luck!

carlovers

I intend on going to somewhere like carlovers where you still wash yourself.

You just use their high presure water guns, so nothing touches the paint and then you clean yourself.

Just like doing at home except you have to pay for the water!

When I have used these in the past usually $20 - $30 in coins does the trick.

This is a major concern for me too and SRT61 will become even more of a Garage Queen come 1st January than she already is .

One thing we learned from the detail workshop was than many Commercial Car wash joints use salt in their water recycling. It is a very cheap and nasty way of filtering the water and there is no way I want to be using salted water to clean my rides.

Please please check out the commercial cash wash you choose very carefully.

Black SRT-8, $20 - $30 to wash you car. Bloody Hell

Sorry to rain on your parade Jected but Car Lovers was named as one of the offenders. I attended the same detailing workshop and was quite surprised to hear the news myself. I stopped using them immediately.

I guess the first thing to do is to taste the water and see if you can detect any salt.

If it was not such a "seller's market", ie. they will be stormed with people once the water restrictions cut in, you could question them before deciding to take your business there. I bet they will be arrogant and say "take it or leave it"

This has really been playing on my mind John. Just after I went out and spent $200 bucks on a bloody high pressure cleaner for home too!

Do you know what car wash places DON'T use salt water? It brings tears to my eyes thinking I can't properly wash my car anymore. And you can't take your bucket and sponge to the commercial washes either - they all have signs now saying "no hand washing" - ie buckets and sponges. They just want you in and out real quick. Bloody hell - who is spending $20-30 bucks at one of these places! I can wash my car quickly and do a pretty good job for about $7-8 bucks. Good workout too!
