Hi JandG! The Touring has a tow rating of 1650kg. The downball weight is usually 10% of the tow which makes it 165kg.

Ok, well I believe the 300CRD has a towing capacity of 2000Kg but I could be wrong. Not sure where I read that. Engines with that sort of capability I would have thought can tow a lot more. Maybe they are just very conservative.

1650Kg is definetly to low for what I want. Have to sort this out a bit further. Would like to purchase the diesel but it has to have ay least 2000Kg towing capability otherwise no good to me.

Thanks anyway.

Gerard

Gerard (JandG) I can attest for Mavericks information, he works at DCA HQ

I really hope we don't lose you to a 4WD just because of the towing capacity. You will not know what you missed

That Information I got was from a databook for 2007MY vehicles. However, like what you have pointed out it did have a tow rating at 2,000kg for 2006 cars. It seems like there might have been one of those running changes they make to specifications without reason! I will have a look around tomorrow and let you know...

If in doubt, read the spec sheet.

Maximum towing capacity (kg)

3.5l 1725
3.0crd 2000
5.7l 1725
SRT8 Not Recommended

The CRD Touring has a towing capacity of 2000kg,

Buy the car & love it.

Hi Gerard:

I just found the missing owners manual. I can't see why a Tourer should be any different to a sedan. This is what the specifications quote:
"Up to 3" persons and luggage (2000kg).Up to 4 persons and luggage (1600kg). Up to 5 persons and luggage (1200kg).

Cheers
Kelvin.

Well trust me in this.......the last thing I want to be driving is a 4WD.
The caravan I intend to tow in the future is the Geist LV660 or the Geist
XK630. Both have a Tare of 1500kg and an ATM of 1950. Ball weight is only 80-100kg.

Whilst not towing (which will be most of the time) we would love to drive a nice roomy car which is well equiped. The 300CRD fits the bill and would be awesome. The Tourer would be perfect since there will only be 2 people in the car with luggage. One thing I will need to check also is what the GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) and GCM (Gross Combined Mass meaning car weight plus load plus caravan ATM plus ball weight.

Confusing stuff hey. But really important to get it right otherwise I could be driving around illegally.

In short: I need to confirm with Chrysler the following:

GVM for sedan CRD
GVM for tourer CRD
GCM for sedan CRD
GCM for tourer CRD
Ball weight (Maximum)

Got plenty of time to get it sorted out. Might even change to a smaller caravan in order to stay with the 300CRD.

Thanks all for your helpful comments
Gerard

Gerard, you are right, "confusing stuff" and not a subject that really affects me as I don't need or intend to do any towing myself. (but then, when we had a Detailing Workshop I turned off listening about the Car Wash joints who use salt in their filtration process thinking I would never need to take any of my cars to one only to now be confronted with Stage 3 water restrictions )
