XR6 Turbo - Common sense prevails (just in time)

Well it was seriously pouring down today in Sydney and thus the roads were totally soaked. i was driving home from a quick trip to the city and a XR6 Turbo just cuts infront of me with only a few inches to spare. well by then i was seeing red, i knew it was wet and have heard the Aussie media bragging about the XR6T when they were released but i wasn't going to sit there and allow 2 idiots cut infront of me like that.

well the lights ahead turned red and i lined up next to it, me in the left lane with a parked car about 500m or so ahead and him in the right lane. as the lights turned green, i stepped on it firm-ish-ly and the wheels spun for half a second and pulled infront of him with about 100m to spare then slowed down to take a wide curve coming up.

as the curve straightened out, i watched as the XR6T pulled out to the left lane again and started to over take with WOT. This is when i kicked it down to 2nd and stepped on my car, pulling from his rear door to where his front bumper was level with my rear door and i was running at about 95km/h. this is where my senses kicked in and i thought, i've shown that i can beat him, why risk it even more. at that moment, after about 2 seconds of WOT, i slammed on the breaks and slowed down to the speed limit while the XR6T just kept going at WOT until he had to brake pretty hard for the red light ahead (even saw his tail wagging with the breaking and definately didn't want to be in a position like that for me with the wet road and all)

Well funnily enough, there was an ambulance right behind us watching all of this. as soon as the ambulance driver saw me slow down, she pulled up beside me, and congratulated me for my common sense and
maturity before slowing down and pulling behind me again. made me feel real good inside. oh on top of that, i was really surprised how fast i pulled on him.

ended up beside the XR6T at the lights and the guy wouldn't even look at me.

Great story there Spectre. Common Sense .

In those conditions you need to be very wary and I was hoping that as I read it the story it was not going to end in tears for the Ford driver (well it did with you whipping him ).

Spectre, don't want to rain on your parade but if it was me in my XR6T and I was WOT and you had time to gear your car down and then accelerate (i.e you mustn't have been at WOT when you kicked fown) you wouldn't have caught back up to my front bumper.

Love the 300c's but the reality is if I was at WOT and was in front of you in my T you ain't gunna catch me up, certainly not at 95km/h.

But you have to love a short blast (even in the wet!)

Hopefully I too can soon say that I love my 300c!!

Hey Sdrew, he was behind me and i saw him pull out to the inside lane so i had time to kick down the gears before stepping on it. so basically he had to do 1.5 - 2 car lengths in that time which is reasonable i believe and all i said was that i caught up with him and passed him alittle before planting on the brakes.

he was never really infront of me, as i said, in the time it took me to shift, i fell behind to his rear door and just stepped on it, i have absolutely no doubt he was at WOT. but maybe wrong gear?

and he just kept going which was quite stupid in the wet.

um...wet condition and double demerit point season, I think I will do my best to keep my cool. Besides not everyone knows our car is fast (sure doesn't look like one). When ppl see a BIG car in front they tend to pass unless you are driving something with big wings and body kit like Ford and Holden. Your story was fun thou and I trust Ford guy won't admit any of it.

What is done to your car; how did you 'kill' an xr6t without even trying by your story..
Congratulations on pulling off, anyone can have some fun, but it takes a sensible skilled and knowing driver to uderstand the risks involved and how to determine what is safely acceptable in any given sitution.
Ive driven big rwd cars since i started driving, many 300's now and own a typhoon at current state and tell you now i dont do anything in the wet; i dont ever give my car or even my old 200kw fairlane the boot in the wet as traction is just not on my side.. not to mention the safety in 2000kg rwd barges!
I think that xr6t was stuck in 2nd btw for you to pull such a manover without raising a sweat in a stock 300c (if it is stock that is)

Good story none the less!
