Was finally going to wash, polish, wax the car today. I was going to go the Meguirs 3 step (Paint Cleaner, deep polish wax), perhaps scratch x for the swirl marks then the 3 step process. Was thinking of claying but not confident at doing it, anyway....
So I go into my local Autobarn looking to pick up the Meguirs stuff, and one of the boys there asks what type of car and colour. So I tell him black 300c. He then suggests the Autoglym set of products (paint renovator, super resin polish, ultra deep shine).
I'm kinda leaning towards the meguirs, but am open to advice.

I recommend you invest in some Clay and give it a try. As long as you use plenty of lubricant (quick detailer, or diluted dishwashing liquid if you want to tear off the existing wax/polish) you will have no problems.

Whatever you use it the results will depend on your commitment and amount of effort (unfortunately), especially with a Black car.
I recommend you invest in some Clay and give it a try. As long as you use plenty of lubricant (quick detailer, or diluted dishwashing liquid if you want to tear off the existing wax/polish) you will have no problems.
The commitments there, as longs as they kids allow....... What I plan on doing is washing the car and then doing section across the day in the garage so I can help out at home and not have the constant ..dad what are you doing?, why are you taking so long?

I have the Infinity Paint Protection on my Black SRT and it’s great.
I did have VJ apply the first coats etc, but 12 months later I have been able to keep the car looking sensational, and with not a lot of effort. I had VJ do a top up a few months ago and it looked better than brand new again.
VJ has the Australian distribution, but I assume there is a dealer in Melbourne and if so I recommend that you have them apply the first coat and then you just have to look after the upkeep, and they give you enough for about 12 months.
It fills the swirls and works on the principal of adding protection rather than cutting back paint, so you polishing cloth is not the colour of your car, but clear.
They also have a finishing cloth, a little like a shmos, but better than I have ever used before.
I am obviously a fan and VJ is also good to deal with as he cares and is also a car enthusiast.

Yer everything that Slim said and more the Clay is most differnately worth the effort.
Like others have said, don't be afraid of using clay as your first step, after washing of course. As John (Hemi57) pointed out, make sure you have enough lubricant otherwise the clay will grab. The dishwashing soap will cut the wax too.
The only thing about clay is that if you drop it, THROW IT AWAY and use a new piece. Even if you think its clean, it will have picked up contaminates that will scratch your car.

Jeff, you are right Clay will not fix the swirl marks unless they are in the wax/polish, which is possible but unlikely.
Personally, on the used cars I have bought in years gone by, which have had swirls when I got them, I worked the paint regularly with a Cleaner/Polish, like Megs (the one in the maroon tub). The swirls do not disappear after the first application but regular usage will reduce and eventually eliminate the swirls.
These days with water restrictions and the fact that SRT 61 is a garage queen and only gets cleaned about 4 times a year, I no longer follow my routine. The routine was, rinse, wash, dry, and polish a section every week. I keep a log on which section I polish so after about 5 or 6 weeks I would be back at the starting point again. In doing only a section (like roof and pillars, bonnet and guards, etc.) the whole routine would only take me just over 1 hour each week. I was well rehearsed .
It should be okay, just give it a good shake and have a look to see if the materials have separated and will not blend or if they have solidified. I doubt either will be the case as long as the product has been stored in reasonable conditions.
