RDP Cold Air Intake installed (with pics)

I received a CAI yesterday from Steve at RDP and installed it today.

It was a great feeling for this "office" man to be able to install this himself.

Thanks to Steve for answering my 3 calls today....not too many vendors I know of would be as accessible as he has been. Even with his instructions (one or two of which I forgot!), there were a few "tricks" that I learnt during the install so if anyone else needs help, just let me know.

I have attached some photos below. The last one shows the effen original unit that I had to extract from behind the front guard....now that was "fun"!

End result....sounds great under WOT....as expected.

Can't wait for the RDP 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust which is going in this Wednesday.

Thanks again Steve!

Thanks Shane.

I had set my mind on a polished Air Hammer which looks great, but sucks hot air rather than cold air......so I went for the best performance.

It sounds very nice!!!

Nice job Slang. I too am a "pen pusher" and am generally useless as t1ts on a bull but I installed my own which was very satisfying.

The sounds from these things are awesome. You should find your fuel economy will improve too.

More keyboard button and mouse pushing than pens....

Fuel economy...now this should probably be a new thread but you are right. After achieving 12.5 to 13.0L / 100km without the Diablo Predator tuning, after tuning I am getting around 12.0L to 12.5L / 100km. I would have done much better but I've been putting the boot into it a bit since getting the custom tune....and still getting better economy. Now that's with MDS turned off, higher shift points, etc.

I know Steve from RDP would like to advertise that Predator tuning would lead to improved fuel economy (because it does) but there'd be people who couldn't lay off the pedal which could lead to "false advertising" type claims.

Will be interesting to see how I go with the new exhaust laster this week. I'm thinking fuel economy may take a beating with today's new CAI...needs a bit of WOT to roar.

Note: Most of my driving is on the M7 (Sydney)....so I'm getting relatively good fuel economy compared to other V8's and the Chrysler claim of 12.4L/100km.

Nice work slang

I like your "special intake" - air filter on water bottle approach.
Is this the air purification water trap Steve mentioned?

Great job slang! Welcome to the RDP club :-) If you thought the CAI was good you are in for a real treat when the exhaust goes on :-)

As for fuel economy I believe I am one of the ones that can't get the boot off the pedal. My eonomy has gone up with the upgrades....I now sit at about 16/100 when I used to get 14/100. But it is totally worth it!!

That looks like a good design to get the coolest air, except maybe there is risk of sucking up water in deep puddles?

That last pic is the air silencer, which I thought Chrysler had discontinued on the 2007 cars. Does the car sound louder when idling or low RPM/s?

this filter is one of the water resistant units as i took that into account when do the system, because your correct i've seen that happen before in the past.
See mate i told you you didn't need to be a mechanic to fit it

The exhaust will make your fuel economy suffer. Mine averaged 18 - 19l/km stock. After my exhaust it was 21 - 22L/km. After I added the CAI, it dropped again to 19.5 - 20.1L/km.

Is the car quicker off the line by getting rid of MDS? I would imagine it would be. More responsive too I reckon?
