Great Fuel Economy

One advantage of a CRD is the great fuel economy. Christmas day we travelled from Yackandandah (near Wodonga on NSW/Vic border) to Frankston. About 700km round trip. Got home with 1/4 of a tank left. Generally I was pushing fairly hard on the open roads between Benalla and Cockatoo. I went the back way to avoid the traffic jams. As it turned out, I apparently made the right decision.

Only 700klms on Xmas day. Kelvin you are some kind of masochist. More importantly on the back way Benella to Frankston you passed at least two members homes where you could have stopped for a small drink seeing as you had time to spare! Guess we are going to have to wait until we get to Albury show in March to have a drink.
Cheers

I did think off stopping off at a few members places (I didn't go through Lilydale). You are correct. I felt very guilty . And yes I will be at the show in WODONGA in March. I have never missed a show yet when they were in Albury at Odeis? Creek reserve..

Guys, I thought I would share my figures too. I drove from Ballarat to Geelong in Victoria which is about an 90km trip in my HEMI sedan and got it down to 10.3 L/100km - I couldnt beleive it. These were the best figures I have seen in any of my V8's I have owned!!

Christmas day I took the wife and 3 kids to the mother-in-laws house, some 45km away. 5 of us int he car (3 teens) with the A/C on (it's was 41c!!!) and she returned 9.3L/100km on the way there, 10.4 on the way back (a few choice runs at WOT through the gears!

This was all freeway driving, sat on 100km/h the whole way with the cruise control on. Oh, the intake silencer removal mod is awesome, sounds lick above 3000rpm at WOT.

Truly amazing!

Did a day return from Canberra to Sydney on Christmas Day, averaging 7.5 litre/100 km including city driving (up and down the hills in north Sydney traffic). Was doing 120 all the way on highway, didn't see any cops at all. Shame that CRD doesn't have the same exhaust music of a V8, can't complaint really when it is so economical.

5.7L fuel consumption

All,

My 5.7L HEMI returned 10.4L/100km for the first half of Syd to Melb trip on 98 octane.

On the 2nd tank, although not finished, I only got 10.9L/100km running standard 91 octane.

My car has the 93 (?) octane and CAI predator tune courtesy of RDP.

I haven't done the numbers but I believe the % increase in km using 98 octane roughly equals the same in additional cost of the fuel.

Interesting to see what happens when I finally get the 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust fitted nex week.

Cheers,

Stephen

hi slang,

Chrysler recommends a minimum of 95RON for the C which means you should be using at least "premium" rather than the normal fuel which may explain why you used more petrol than when you were running on 98. i always run on 98 although there are those around here who are adamant that the 98 doesn't do you any good compared to 95 while others are a stickler for 98. i learnt that 98 gave me more mleage per tank than 91 in my old car and that's why i stick with it. although petrol prices are going through the roof. when i first started using 98, the differential was around 5-8c, now it's a 12c/L difference.

Hi Spectre,

Thanks for the tip. I can't recall seeing that in the handbook.

Regards,

Stephen
