Warning! Contaminated Fuel in Victoria-serious engine problems

Hi all

Did any of you catch the item on TV last night regarding contaminated fuel in Victoria.?

Apparently it has caused serious engine damage in several cars already
The symptoms are: engine difficult to start, white powder residue on spark plugs and exhaust pipe, fuel smells sweet compared to petrol, fuel colour is less pink (more clear) than petrol.

The major brands are denying it's theirs. Would hate to think any of our brotherhood caught up in this scam

They talk of 'small, unbranded fuel outlets'. That's always been sus fuel I reckon. Don't they thin it down with some additive that goes in paint? A bit like Chinese milk.

Its independants that are supplied by Mobil. Lots of cars to be repaired and Mobil don't think they have a problem!

while we are on fuel problems, WHo here runs just normal 95 Ron. I have only ran 98 BP Ultimate in the car at all times apart from about 4 times the Caltex Vortex. was just wondering if it is worth the extra $ or should i just put 95 in it. (BTW have the 5.7) NMG any ideas ?

Wasn't a BP petrol station in Sydney was selling regular unleaded as premium unleaded years back? I get my fuel from supermarket outlets now a day, they are less likely to risk their reputations.

That's all I run in mine, nothing flash here, still runs hard on the dyno too, about 280RWHP, don't think the extra $$$ are worth it in these things even with the SRT wouldn't bother myself, don't get me wrong had the higher octane Shell in my tank too just only cause I parked too far away from the regular unleaded gun, LOL don't even know what the higher octane Shell fuels are called Is the normal 95 Ron just their unleaded??

The RACV said it silicone oil mixed in with the fuel. There will be a class action very soon to recover massive damage costs and everyone is blaming each other. My guess is that the fuel tanker had silcone oil in it from a previouse delivery and it wasn't washed out properly! This sort of issue is unlikely to happen at the major fuel retailers because there logistic suppliers provide a fixed fleet which only ever delivers fuel!
