SRT-8 replacement tyres

Hi guys,
Just wondering what SRT owners have done when it came time to replace the stock F1 tyres. Did you replace with the same, other brand, different size/s or what? Sorry if this subject has been discussed before, but I couldn't find any threads dedicated to this topic dedicated to aussie owners.

Hi oldval,

I was lucky enough to find a set of brand spanking factory tyres on a set of rims traded in on 22's at a mag shop, so if you were happy with the F1s, see if you can strike up a deal with your local stealership to tip you in to any new purchasers who are fitting mags strait up.
At the time, I was quoted around the $700.00 a corner for F1s from my local tyre guy, and picked these up for 400ish fitted and balanced.
Hope this helps,

Andy.

Cruzmat, I have two for the rear already as a result of purchasing a set of 4 wheels, ex-SRT8 with two other forum members. I ended up with the two rear wheels, and the other forum members each have one front wheel. These came complete with as new tyres and sensors. Just looking at options at this stage wog boy. With luck I should get at least 25K out of the original set. US owners have many options available to them, including Falken tyres. Ever heard of these over here? Is there a distributor over here?

At $700 a corner for the F1's over here, it may be cheaper to import a set of tyres from the US. They are selling Falken's to suit the SRT8 for a fraction of this price in the states - around $250 each and many positive comments have been made about them from owners of high performance cars! Damn, we're ripped off over here!

I had the misfortune of blowing out one of my tyres and then trying to find a replacement at short notice. I ended up replacing all 4 as they were due to change over anyway but I had difficulty in finding anyone who had the F1's in stock. Even the bigger chains of beaurepairs, etc claimed they had none in the country they could even ship down. re Falken you could try their aus website (www.falken.com.au). Whichever way you go I would highly recommend sorting out a source before you need it. I ended up finding a local tyre shop that was able to source the two front tyres out of NSW and the rears out of Qld. I'll be interested in any alternatives to the F1's and peoples expereince with them.

Thanks for the link and tip wolff.

Checked out the Falken website and found a tyre that may suit all four corners: 255/45ZR20 XL

I'll shoot them an email to see if they must be ordered a year in advance or what. You could have blown me over with a feather when I asked my local Tyre Power store for info about replacement F1's for the SRT8. I was advised fronts were $760+ and rears were $785+ and should be ordered at least 1 month prior to needing them. I'm soooo very glad I purchased the two wheels when I had the chance. Paid $1250 for the pair - genuine SRT rims with OEM tyres - not a blemish on them either, but the sensors had been removed, so they will need to be re-mounted/balanced and installed with sensors, but hey, for that price they were a bargain!

Wondering if anyone has put all the same size tyres on front and rears? Any issues with clearance or scrubbing that you know of? I'm sure this has been posted on the SRT specific area of this site, but hey - I'm a techno idiot and it would take me all day to find this info out.

Either toyo or Kumho do a 255/45 that will fit the rears. When I looked there wasn't any options for the 245 fronts but that may have changed by now.

Some other owners have chosen to put the 255's on all four corners. The also allows for wheel rotation. I have no idea if there would be any clearance issues with 255's on the front though. Anyone else done this?

I'm running Toyo Proxes S/T on my 22"s, wearing pretty well so far, nearly 20,000km and still look like new. S/T is for super tough so I expect a harder wearing compound, actually it is a Sport Truck tyre. They are in the process of being replaced by the toyo Proxes S/T II so some sizes are available in S/T and others in S/T II.

http://www.toyo.com.au/Proxes%20ST.htm

Unfortunately nothing in the exact sizes for the SRT8, you would probably have to run 275/40/20 all round although I'm not sure if this is possible.

You could try www.tirerack.com if you are looking for an overseas source.

By the way you could just pop your existing pressure sensors in the other rims, no need to remove and re-mount tyres, they just pop the bead on one side, slip the sensor in and pump it back up again, quick balance if you must but not really necessary and you're all done.

My F1's only lasted 25000kms - and only just. When I was looking to replace them they were around $950 a tyre so I decided to look around. I ended up going with the TOYO Proxes4 front and rear (they have the 245 and the 255) and they have lasted me 45000kms so far but they look like they'll need to be replaced soon. Performance wise they are excellent, although in my opinion not quite as good as the F1's in the wet (marginal difference, not much in it), and looks wise they are much meaner looking i reckon. I've just priced both the F1 and TOYO again and my best price was $600 and $485 respectively. I think I'll go with the TOYO again given they get a hell of a lot more wear.
