Rear End Sidewise "Hop" over bumps?

Hi All, I notice a real sideways hop from the rear end going over bumps. Its been there since I have had the car. Lowering it helped but its still there. It seems to be worse at around 60, but it just feels "loose" in the rear generally. Is it just my car?

Looking at some threads from our US friends it seems they think a lot of it is due to the standard tyres. Any of you have any thoughts on this, maybe before/after you changed you rims/tyres did you notice a difference?. I thought the suspension was basically Merc, I would have thought it would be pretty sorted?

Anybody think/know if stiffer sway bars would help?

cheers

MODS SO FAR:
Lowered 1.5" (Pedders)
Removed Side Mouldings
CC Plates
Mopar Premium Chrome Grille
Clear side markers
Chrysler floor mats
Parrot bluetooth

MODS TO COME:
Window Tint - (dark as I can)
Pedders suspension upgrade (when avail)

Hemi On.....

Hey Whipit, any car hops sideways when the rear wheels leave the ground when cornering!!!!!!!!

Can't say i've noticed this habit in my car but the SRT is lower with wider wheels etc. etc.

My ZD Fairlane developed a disconcerting lurch a coupla months ago, the track control arm at the front left had come a bit loose, and was sliding from side to side as you cornered, now that was 'entertaining' at 10 / 10ths........

I guess I havent done a good job of explaining....

Its more how the car behaves going over a bump, I can feel the rear end step a bit sideways, if no one else knows what I mean maybe its something wth my particular car. Its not like its going to veer off the road or anything, its just diconcerting.

whipit, the last car I had that did that was an EA Foulcan (Falcon), which was fitted with a live rear axle. I would drive to work and there were (still are in fact) about three manholes where the covers are lower than the road surface. The POS really felt like it kicked sideways when the rear wheel dropped into one of those.

I never noticed an issue with HEMI 57 and I don't notice anything with SRT 61 either. Sound like you should get it checked out. BTW, what are your tyre pressures? Are they even on the same axle?

The one thing I found disconcerting with HEMI 57 was punting quickly along on a windy country road at 100+ kph, the shift of the car on the tyres sweeping from a left to right corner was very noticeable. I do run my tyres at around 37 psi and it still was quite noticeable.

Thanks, tyres pressure are good, I checked them, sounds like I will get it checked out, its due for its 12,000 service in a couple of weeks. Its quite a disconcerting feeling really, I have a HSV Senator also, and it doesn't behave at all like it. I am a bit particular about handling though. I will post after the service to let you know what they find.

cheers, hemi on....

Just a quick update, just booked her in with the dealership, when I mentioned the rear end "looseness" I got the old "Oh, you have had it lowered have you...." hope this isn't going to turn into an issue, it did it before I just thought it was the way the car was. Surely lowering it doenst void the warranty?

Lowering voiding warranty? This is going to get interesting.

Unfortunately you have modified something you are now having an issue with so they have got a case. Keep us informed on how you go.

Any thoughts on the line I should take? Has anyone else had any experiences out there? Seems like lot of us have had the odd mod done here and there. Its not like I have bagged it or anything just a Pedders 1.5" spring set...

There have been several threads and dozens of posts about this defect in the 5.7 suspension design, it has nothing to do with lowering the car. Here, here, and here are just a few examples detailing this problem among those who have not modified their suspension. Tires are a big part (those awful Contis brought out the worst in a poorly developed suspension and the GY ComforTreads mask the suspension problems.) of the problem but IMO the suspension is poorly developed much like the steering.
