hi

Jeep Grand Cherokee WK - Maintenance information and schedules

CRD

Use only SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Engine Oil that meets Chrysler Material Standard MS-11106 or Mercedes Benz MB 229.51 and ACEA C3 qualified engine oils

5.7 Hemi

5W-20
(Note: It is important to use only 5W-20 oil for proper operation of the Multiple Displacement System. Use of other weight oils will affect the on/off timing window of the MDS system and may also result in unbalanced engine wear).

SRT

0W-40 or 5W-40
(For best performance and maximum protection under all types of operating conditions, the manufacturer only recommends full synthetic engine oils that meet the American Petroleum Institute (API) categories of SM or SM/CF, and meet the requirements of Chrysler Material Standard MS-10725. The manufacturer recommends the use of a full synthetic engine oil, such as Pennzoil Platinum« European Formula SAE 5W-40 or equivalent.)

*Note for the 6.1L engine: The oil change specification calls for 7 quarts of oil when changing the oil and filter. Some owners have reported a slight to moderate overfill reading on the dipstick when installing a full 7 quarts. The 6.1L engine drains the oil slower than other engines. Drain the old warmed oil for at least 20 minutes to get as much out as possible. We suggest adding around 6-1/2 quarts, run the engine for a few minutes, shut it down and let sit for awhile, then fill as neccessary to bring the reading to the safe area on the dipstick. The top of the safe area represent the proper "full" level. Note that adding a full 7 quarts (with filter change) will never overfill the engine to such an extent that any oil foaming or harm will result, even if the level is beyond the "safe" reading on the dipstick.

YES WE CAN!
with mds or without mds 5W-30 is fine.
The 2006 Owners manual page 129 says so. You will need 6.6 litres.
I suspect back in 2006 there was practically no alternatives for 5W-20 oil in AUS.

I have used Castrol Edge Sport 5W-30 on our 5.7 hemi 300C since new and change the oil & oil filter every 6 months as recommended.
No issues with mds operation at all. She still purrrs like new

Cheers

Yeah, With my supercharger I had to do torque modification to the transmission so the mds didnt work smoothly and was annoying.. So I just turned it off.. So much better without it in my application. Ordered 5w20 anyway.. Found a supplier that can supply me 5w20 cheaper than my local supplier can supply 5w30.. 5w20 is a better oil...

As SOX suggested 0W-40 or 5W-40 would be better for your no mds - high power - high load - high temp application

I have used Castrol Edge Sport 5W-30 on my 6.1 300C SRT8 since new and change the oil & oil filter every 6 months as recommended.
The car has done only 20,000 Kms and runs like a swiss watch on steroids.

I didn't know 5w-20 was an option for the 5.7? Thought 5w-30 was a must.

I've always used Mobil 1 full synthetic 5w-30 and always been happy. I change at about 7000-8000 miles, and usually use 7 quarts or so. I use MDS however.

What motor oil?

In australia they use 10w30 but in US is 5w20. I have 2006 300c 5.7 HEMI and the manual that came with the car has the spec of 5w20. I use Mobil 1 Extended Performance with Mobil 1 Filter it works really great.
