How to: Replace Emblem in 300 Wing

Hello all, Heidi asked me to post a little how to on replacing the 300 wing emblem insert. The following method is quick and easy, but you'll ruin your stock emblem.

Tools needed:
Drill
Small Bit
Phillips Head Screwdriver
Phillips Head Screw
Pliers
Dremel (optional)

Steps:

1. Drill a small pilot hole into the emblem.

2. Drive the screw, by hand, into the emblem until you HEAR the emblem begin to crack.

3. Using the pliers, pull the screw out. With the screw securely in the emblem, the emblem should come out as well.

4. Clean all the old double sided tape residue.

5. (Optional) Dremel the inside edge of the wing. There is a raised circle and you can smooth it out so the new emblem sits flush with the wing edge. If the wing is on the car, be careful with your Dremel not to touch the edges of the emblem "ring". The picture below shows the raised circle.

6. The finished product:

7. Order an emblem now, what are you waiting for?

8. If you ruin your wing, here's the part number: p/n 4805988ab

Notes:
Please read post #16 for some observations from someone who's done this mod.

stealthstr8,

Just a question about step #1 - I assume that your drill just into the emblem, and don't want to drill into the wing (or anything else behind it). If so, about how deep does the hole need to be?

(got my nickle plated SRT-8 emblem yesterday, along with a few other Billet items. So far, so good! My next Billet order will be soon!)

Also, as an aside, I'm loving the quality of Billet products. I slipped on the turn-stalk covers, and the cold metal feel when is fantastic. It's nice to put my fingers on to something quality ever time I change lanes

I also got the visor warning covers, which are beautiful.

Nice stuff. I'm very impressed with the quality and finish of the Billet items I've received so far.

yubyub, i can appreciate your concern about drilling too deep.

i would go as deep as you need to to get the screw secure in the emblem. you have about 1/4 inch or less.

thanks for your comments about the quality of BT products. they are impressive.

Thanks for the info.

Unfortunately, I'm away on business now, so I can't do the install for about a week. When I do, however, get around to it, I'll try to document and take pics of my experience.

Well, I'm back. But it's cold as b*lls here.

Will the adhesive suffer if I install it while it's cold outside, say 20 degrees F?

i don't think it's ideal. personally, i'd wait until it was warmer. keep the emblem inside at room temp. do what you have to do to prep the wing. use a blow dryer to warm the wing surface, then apply the room temp emblem.

...just a thought.

My thoughts exactly. I'll probably wait until a famously "spring day" here in NY (we had one about 2 weeks ago where it was almost 70) and do it then.

Better to be safe, than to have my emblem fly off when I reverse out of a parking space at 50MPh.
