reality for SRT8 owners...

bedding works on these brakes until they cool down again and you drive it the next time out...
the brake squeal is unacceptable for a $50K car...
every time the brake pedal is depressed, it squeks...
EVERY TIME!!!

the brake dust is even more unacceptable...
I had some help from a fellow member showing me how to detail my car again...
from clay to wax to interior treatment and everything in between...
the car looks unreal now!!!
very sic!!!
it shows all of the paint imperfections tremendously though...
take a real good look at your car...
the reason I mentioned all this...
he has a Limited "C" and it is sweet!
he could not believe the amount of brake dust...
what was even more telling on how bad it is...
we took the car out after 6 hours of detail work on the "Vixen"...
and went all of 3 miles...
and there was brake dust on the rims and fenders already...

the whole brake system sucks - period...

Who is too blame Bremo or DCX - ?
who cares whose fault it is...
the real issue is WHEN is something going to be done about it!!!
This system is by and far the worst set-up they could have come up with for the car...
yeah, it stops pretty good most of the time...
although, my hard braking is starting to get a lot of ABS pedal shudder lately in the last 2 incidents that I jumped on them...
and the rotor grooving...
well, let's just say the guy who was over could not believe how bad it was...
can you tell I hate the whole brake issue?
Thank goodness for the motor and the fact it goes like a bat outta heck to remind me of why I really bought the car...
cause goodness knows it is not for the brake system...
can you imagine how my review was regarding the brakes on the recently submitted customer service questionairre sent by a company in Michigan to me...
let's just say it will rate a 1 on a scale of 1 to 10...
ask for my opinion and get the truth...
no amount of horsepower can overide such deficiencies in such an important component of the car...

I wish everyone here luck with regards to their brakes and getting them replaced, "covered" or warrantied by DCX - I just don't see them stepping up to the plate...

Sincerely,

.......just keep letting your service depts. know IT"S AN ISSUE. The more that roll out with the same issues and continue to complain to their dealerships, the sooner we'll have an alternate----or better yet ------REPLACEMENT system.

BTW: dust is still out of control, but I passed the 4000 mile mark and the squeal has actually gotten better------the grooving is just stupid. bad bad bad

I had said to another member that I would watch my thread jacking, so I'm editing to make it shorter if it's not going to be on topic.

Basically I said that he doesn't seem to like his car, he might as well sell it. Then I said that MB and BMW put out as much if not more dust, and they are over 50K, so if he thinks its unacceptable he must have never bought one. Then I suggested he try drying the wheels or letting the pads dry before driving. Then I said brakes that stop well don't suck, and that squeal and dust shouldn't be the factor of judgement Then I suggested Meineke as a place for long lasting brakes that don't dust or squeal. In CButler's defense, I did so in a pissy way.
Richard

marlinspike...

I am really not in the mood tonight...
and when you go and buy YOUR own $50K car let us know...
then I will acknowledge you as an equal here...
as I indicated I am not in the mood for this trash, so here goes...

I've got 5,500 miles on MY 300C SRT8...
how many do you have on YOURS?
FYI - these are problems experienced by everyone here...
I'll answer your somewhat attack of a post...
as you have no personal experience to call on here about the car...
daddy's car doesn't count - sorry...
if you read the post in its entirety...
and you left out the most important point...
you would have noted that a fellow member here on this board could NOT believe how bad the brake dust issue was...
before and after we detailed it...
uh, riding the brakes...
not...
letting it dry...
another good point...
try 4 hours of dry time from the time it was last washed during the detail process...
as for the system sucking - when you are talking the "total" brake package - it sucks...
it does stop well...
if I drove my dad's car every chance that he let me and I could get the guy that details the car to take care of the brake dust issue for me like you...
then it would not be a problem for me either...
although, the brake squeal thing is not going to be too impressive when driving up somewhere where there are chicks congregating (in front of a club)and having the brakes squeal like the car is a yugo...
as for other brake pads - I'll wait and see what Brembo and DCX come up with...
thanks for the advice - personal experience?
as the system they came out with was not the system that should have ended up on the car - I have some sources that say it was rushed into service... I guess I'll wait for the real thing...
and as far as other cars, the majority of forum members here either have or have had all of the other cars you refer too; and not one has said that the amount of brake dust is similar to any of their cars they have or have had in the past...
Richard,
I respect your attempt at trying to offer some sound advice (in your mind), but until you are an owner yourself, plunk the cash down (or monthly payment), then stay in the arena of asking questions on how to upgrade your dad's car...
When you drive it day to day and have to deal with these issues that I am describing then I will acknowledge your posts in a constructive way...
as the post above was far from it...
didn't school start yet?
Sincerely and respectfully yours,
Chris

P.S.
here is the post about the wonderful paint job...
FYI
my paint job sucks...
The guys at Brampton did a horrific job...
the roof and hood have orange peel finish...
I detailed the car this weekend with another forum member...
and we found no less than 18 paint issues...
dirt specs in paint, 2 threads of "something" in paint, 3 bubbles that had been "popped" on bottom of doors and never re-finished, I agree that the quality is less than standard and they have not come along way or have the right to compare themselves yet to the premium car divisions out there...
as for the engine though - that makes up for it right?
for me, not really...

P.S.S.
as for selling it...
hmmm...
$3.25 - $3.49 a gallon
premium car - that I could get for over MSRP because of inflated prices with dealers here is SD...
maybe you are really on to something after all...

I dropped my 2005 SRT-8 off at the dealership today with a request to replace the front Rotors and upgrade all the computer software. The brakes and Rotors need to be inspected by the Service Manager and approved for warranty replacement. I will let everyone know how this goes. I will accept nothing less than replacement and if I need to go all the way with this I will.

If they refuse, I will post a PO Box along with a link to a print out of a petition from SRT-8 owners to print and sign and send to me to start a campaign to get this issue resolved for all SRT-8 owners. I have been told by insiders that DCX is infamous for deny warranty claims related to brakes. I will not let this happen to the SRT-8 crowd without a fight. My Rotors are warped and gouged to all hell and for the price of this vehicle, whether it is similar to other high performance vehicles or not, at this mileage this is just not acceptable.

I should know more by next week, since I am traveling... more to come so stay tuned...

Brake Squeal

Ahhh, the squeal of my brakes on my $60k (out the door) Black '06 Rocket Sled. In theory I agree that we should not have to endure the noise and the dust. I also remember waiting and waiting, and then FINALLY becoming an SRT-8 Owner not waiter. Makes these issues seem rather trivial. Previous post regarding crank the Kicker Stereo works great, at least I don't hear it. Dust, well 4180 lbs that stops on the dime, energy has to go somewhere. I run ceramics on my Q45 and 2 Suburbans = No dust. Probable that a different pad compound is what DCX will supply , eventually, to appease us.

As far as the whole braking system sucks: What kinda glua are you guys sniffing?

I spent all day and two full tanks of gas at Sears Point (aka Infineon) Raceway yesterday pushing my 2 ton rocket sled through the 12 turns, passing and OUT BRAKING cars that were easily 1000 lbs lighter ALL DAY LONG!

0-110, 110 to 30, back to 110 to 20 ALL DAY.

No Brake Fade. NONE

This Bone Stock Beast is Ridiculously Fast and the Brakes are Equally potent. Look at the stopping distance for the 300c vs the SRT-8 (no offense lil brothers). You want quiet non dusty wheels. Plenty of cars got 'em. As for me: 15 days, 2500 miles, 1 Track Day (so far) and a grin I can't wipe off, no doubt.

Look for me squealing my Two Ton Dusty Wheeled Monster past most anything that moves.

BTW: I do agree that we should each document the issue at the dealership (nicely). Enough negative feedback and we'll probably see some different pads, and new rotors if the old ones are not within specs. Meanwhile...

Gotta go wipe down my wheels (again), The open Road Beckons...

Dan, I couldn't agree more.

I've run my 300C on the track with the ceramics and while it stops well and out brakes many other cars, I am totally impressed with the SRT8 brakes.

Like you say, the energy has to go somewhere. What's a little brake dust on the shoes of a Porsche eater?

Canada Bound

Pardon my Ignorance, I don't know my Canada Geography. Where is Ottawa in relation to Edmonton and/or Jasper. I'll be up (from AZ) on business. Would LOVE to see your ride in person. I know probably 1,000 miles away. And sadly, I won't be driving mine. I am supposed to fly up on 9/19 and return 9/26, and leave my Bad Ass ride at home???

I'd love to hook up, as well, but Ottawa is a long way from Alberta. I am in Eastern Canada, near lake Ontario - close to Syracuse, NY and a 7 hour drive from Boston.

I may be down AZ way in January escaping the winter and heading to Mexico.
