Question My brake spring is annoying

This may have been hashed over before and I appologize because I'm a newbe but has anyone come up with a solution for the return spring creaking when you are holding the brakes on, I've tried greasing but that is short term. The dealer had no solution and says it's common. I'm going to try a rubber tube over the spring wire but I want to asked if a good fix has been found. I have had my C for over a year and no problems at all but I like my interior quiet Thanks in advance for any answers.

I haven't heard this problem come up before, but I moved your thread out of the interior visual mods forum and into the brakes forum, where you're more likely to get a good response. Our resident brake expert, bar none, is Dave Zeckhausen. If you don't receive a reply in your thread, you might want to send him a PM.

Welcome to the forums, and good luck with your problem!
P.S. the New Member forum is a great place to introduce yourself and get acquainted with some of our really friendly members, here's a link if you'd like to check in over there!

Desert Dawg... I have a 300C and have no idea what you're talking about. Are you saying that you hear a "creak" when you let your foot off of the brake, or is it the emergency brake and release to which you're referring? Has this been happening for the entire year of ownership, or just recently started?

This started about 5 months ago. The return spring for the brake pedal rest against the back of the arm. When you depress the brake it shifts the spring slightly. Once it wears the coating off the spring it gives a vibration on the spring coil. I thought it was just my car but the dealer service Mgr. knew about it. The grease helped but short time. My family didn't notice it till I pointed it out.

I have it and I know exactly what you're talking about! Apply a little more or less pressure or move the pedal a little and you hear "creek-creek" and yes, it's annoying!

We've only had our pre-owned 300C for 4 months and it now totals 19.1k miles, but I can't say that I have ever heard (or noticed) this sound from my brake pedal. Guess I'll have to do some investigating over the next couple of days.

This is the first time I've heard of this problem. Since it isn't affecting the vast majority of these cars, I'll have to assume there's something slightly different about your car. Perhaps the spring was installed improperly while your car was being built. Perhaps your spring didn't have the correct coating. In any case, have you asked if the dealer can order you a new return spring?

I too have it. It's like what I've had with other cars when the break pressure is let off just slightly not so much that it moves the car but enough you hear a noise, except with this car, you hear it no matter what.

I'm thinking about a teflon sleeve inside the spring. My luck it'll be the coils rubbing against each other!

I have it too and have experienced this for about four months. I haven't mentioned it to the dealer, nor have I taken the time to examine it, but I wonder if the spring is rubbing against the panel that covers over the underside of the dash. I have big feet and may have nudged that panel upward. I'll look into it this weekend, or ask the dealer who has been very helpful.
