My SRT only has 2200 miles and I am getting a noticable squeal from the brakes during normal driving. Anyone else run into this?

Yeah mine squealed since I bought it. They first told me (and everyone else) that this is normal break in. I found this site did a lot of research and found this service bulletin. http://www.wkjeeps.com/misc/LX/TSB/TSB_0500505.pdf
I am getting my brakes replaced next week when the pads come in. Just bring your car into your dealer and have them look into it. If they push back or do not find anything... nicely tell them your "friend" has the same car with the same issue. His was replaced under a service bulletin. If that doesn't work hand them the TSB.

I believe there are a few of us here alone who have had them replaced already. I only have 1500 miles on my SRT8.
Good Luck!

I've been noticing a squeal as well the past couple of weeks. Have a 06' 300C not SRT. I noticed the TSB is for the SRT only. Have about 8000 miles on her. Any ideas?

Thanks -

My guess is that it would apply as well if the symptoms are the same. Only one way to find out ;-)

Not sure on a SRT-8 brake pads:ceramic or not? There have been lot's of problems with the Ceramic pads, I have talked to several Chrysler Service and part managers and they warned me to stay away from them

Presently, there are no ceramics available for the SRT-8. The original pads and the (tsb 05-005-05) replacement pads are not ceramic. The original (AA & AB) pads are a more aggressive pad and tend to squeal a lot. The replacement pads may squeal a little from time to time, but nothing like the originals. The pads are God Awful Expensive (something like $700 for all four wheels!). I ran the originals until they were mostly gone (about 20,000 miles) and then got the new ones put one. Also, my rotors after being turned once are thin enough that next time I'll need 4 rotors. They retail for $112.50 each. So for those of you hating the squeal of the originals, you might want to rack up some miles and then collect your free replacement pads.

BTW: Ceramic pads are AWESOME! I run them (hard) on every other vehicle. No dust, no noise, no fade, and they stop great! It's just a matter of time before they are available for the SRT-8's.

And, Chrysler Dealership Employees (manager or not) are not a real wealth of info when it comes to the SRT-8's.

No brake dust with ceramics!? Count me in!!

Good advise on waiting until the pads have some mileage. I need an oil change and will probably make my dealer aware that the pads seem to have issues. At least they will have it on record for when I request they be replaced.

Welcome to the forums SC SRT8:

I see you're fairly new here. There's tons of information on the SRT8 brakes around here. The problems are the squeal you've already noticed, dust like you could never imagine and premature rotor gouging. Team SRT has promised a permanent fix to address all of these. Who knows when this will happen though. Some say it'll be in June. Right now there is a TSB for the squeal that's been out for several months.

I chose to go with aftermarket pads and am one of the beta testors. I haven't received my pads yet and they should come next week with any luck. Check this thread out for starters and do some searching around here for more discussion on brakes:

Rambit,

Thanks for the heads-up. I read through the thread and see there are many that share my pain. I have not noticed any problems with my rotors and have over 3500 mile now. However, I have plenty of dust. My son said they appear as if I have painted the rims black. Not the look I was going for

I'll keep an eye on Dave Z's site to see when the new pads are out of beta. Do you plan on going with ceramics when they are released?
