Angry Dear SRT Engineer's Brakes !!!!!

Dear SRT Engineer's

Maybe it's just me, but I don't feel like anyone is giving a straight answer when it comes to this Serious Brake Issue.

4 weeks ago I took my car for the TSB on brakes. When I pickup the car I was told that the only changed the front brakes and rotors. The rotors are of a composite material and should not be resurfaced, but the TSB is just for the pads. I guess they wanted me to pay for the rotors and I explained that it was Chrysler with the issue not me and it was not going to be my problem....
The brake rotors are just 4 weeks old and have more grooves and squeaks more than the last. The dealer did not provide me with details of the part numbers of the pads they put...

I think that Chrysler should step up and put a final resolution to this issue so it does not become a Chrysler embarrassment or a flop...All SRT8 owners are over all loyal to this amazing vehicle...

Can you please give more details, I'm very sure that there's is more information than what you are giving us...Thanx, Dan

IMHO- These are psychological issues associated with high performance brakes in general, and it is by no means a flop. I am pleased with the vehicle overall, and even more pleased at the phenomenal performance of these brakes. I have owned a Porsche in the past, and they are known for some of the best brakes OEM in the industry. This STR8 has THE BEST brake performance of any car I have owned. I have 10,000 miles on this vehicle. Yes there is an as load of dust, and yes my rotors are grooved, but after 10k miles there has been no excessive wear, and absolutely no drop off in performance. This is SRT8 owner considers the brakes a success, in my book for an ultra high performance car.

High performance cars have trade offs that one must get used too vs. a regular car.

I know you are new here and I don't want to seem crass to a newcomer..........

............But I am sick and f&cking tired of the recent rash of SRT8 bashing on the 300c and Charger forums, by relatively new owners, who can't seem to take the reassurance from DCX, the SRT Team, your own damn warranty as an owner, other SRT8 owners on the forums who have posted ad nauseam to reassure each other and future owners.

High performance brakes inherently make a lot of noise, and produce a lot of brake dust. Some grooving may occur, but as long as there is no excessive wear it is not a safety or performance issue.

GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why would you think i'm a newcomer, I owned a 2005 300c and now a proud owner of my 2006 SRT 8...I love the brakes, but I did not pay $55k for a new car squeal for 15ft when I brake. The car gets enough attention and it does not need braking squeal to get more....

You obviously missed the SRT Chat session. There's apparently no change coming for the pads, but the 2007 model year will get slotted rotors. I went with aftermarket pads and when the new rotors come out I'll be getting them.

Maybe not a new Chrysler owner, but a new SRT owner.

Use them hard every once in a while........I mean real hard.

Instead of braking 1/4 mile before an intersection get deep into the braking zone and honk on those suckers!!!!!!! the squealing goes away!

If you don't use them hard enough they will squeal! Their squealing: "Use me harder dammit!!!!!!!"

PS The brakes on my Porsche used to squeal. The brakes on the the BMW I had before that used to squeal and put out big time dust too.

I've actually found my rotors have smoothed out somewhat. I'm hoping I can put all this behind me with the new C-Tec pads I'll be putting on later this week. I think you're correct about feathering the brakes too. It seems to make the squeal worsen afterwards.

This is true. I take my 2006 to the track almost every weekend. My brakes do not squeal. BUT the brake dust is driving me crazy. My widened rear wheels and chromed SRT-8 wheels were too much to let brake dust ruin them. I ordered no dust after markets. To be installed tomorrow.
