300 Limousine Brake Upgrade

I have been looking at various brake upgrades for our 300s. So far I have found Stoptech, Brembo and AP Racing upgrades.

All the 3.5 300s here are in severe need of a brake upgrade.

Ours came with uprated pads front and rear, but they are now squealing like a biatchhh!

From looking at a few parts catalogs, i'm assuming that the 5.7 has different calipers, discs and pads on the front and the same calipers and pads but vented discs on the rear. Is this right?

I do like the look of the 380mm AP Racing conversion, as over here AP is the daddy. However, I understand that these are racing brakes and would probably produce too much dust and noise for a limousine.

What upgrade would you choose out of the Stoptech, Brembo or AP?

Is there any low dust/noise pads availale for these kits?

What would I need to upgrade to Hemi brakes?

Many thanks,

Paul

What upgrade would you choose if you had no limit on money?

Also what upgrade would you choose if you had a tight budget?

Many thanks,

I would convert it to 4 wheel drum brakes and invest in an anchor.

Try bedding the brakes to see if this makes the noise go away: http://www.zeckhausen.com/bedding_in_brakes.htm

The rear calipers are different on the 5.7 liter model. Even though the rear rotors on the V6 and V8 models are both 320mm in diameter, the V6 rotors are solid and only 10mm thick, whilst the V8 rotors are vented and 22mm thick. Thus, the rear calipers on the V8 model are wider to accomodate the wider rotor. The rear pad shape is identical, but they are held further apart.

Dust and noise are not a function of the calipers and rotors. It's a function of the brake pads. If you can find a low dust, low noise pad that fits the AP caliper, you'll probably be happy.

Given that you are constrained in wheel dimensions, due to the unusual load requirements on your tires, you are probably best served by switching to the V8 model's bigger brakes. The floating calipers require fqr less wheel clearance than any of the multi-piston, fixed calieprs from StopTech, Brembo, or AP Racing.

For the front, you'll need new rotors, calipers, pads, and brake lines. For the rear, you only need to swap calipers and rotors. The pads and lines are identical to the V6 model. The master cylinder is the same between the V6 and V8 models as long as your V6 model was equipped with Electroinc Stabilization Program (ESP).

Pads for the StopTech BBK can be found here: http://www.zeckhausen.com/StopTech/ST40_pads.htm (Same pads front and rear)

Pads for the Brembo BBK can be found here:

Front - http://www.zeckhausen.com/Brembo/GT1_Pads.htm
Rear - http://www.zeckhausen.com/Brembo/GT3_Pads.htm

Thank you Dave for you very detailed answer.

It does have ESP.

It also has 20 x 8.5J wheels.

I do like the sound of upgrading to the Hemi brakes for now.

I would check the cost on upgrading to the Hemi brakes as opposed to a Brembo kit. Keep in mind with all that weight inherent with a limo, a nice 4 or 8 piston Brembo kit would be great. Also, since it is a limo, keep in mind (depending on your situation) that you can write-off the brakes as a business expense. If you need a quote on Brembo's, simply shoot me an email and I might be able to get you a better price than you were previously quoted.
