New Brake Kit

I have a 300C with 24's and I'm looking to upgrade my brakes. I'm not going to have my car a lot longer so I don't want to go with Brembo's. What's another good setup that's cheaper but also good? And how much? Thanks!

Well, you've got a lot of unsprung weight hauling those 24's around. They play a large part in your braking and suspension woes you surely must be having.

What Is Sprung Weight?
"Sprung" weight is a term used to describe the parts of an automobile that are supported by the front and rear springs. They suspend the vehicle's frame, body, engine, and the power train above the wheels. These are quite heavy assemblies

What Is Unsprung Weight?
An important concept is "unsprung weight." This is weight that is not supported by the suspension of the car. This usually includes the the weight of the wheels and tires as well as a percentage of the weight of the suspension itself, including control arms, anti-roll bars, shocks, and struts. Reducing unsprung weight is the key to improving handling. The lower the unsprung weight, the less work the shocks and springs have to do to keep the tires in contact with the road over bumpy surfaces. An easy way to reduce unsprung weight and improve traction is to replace stock wheels and tires with special lightweight wheels. Note that as the wheel diameter or width increases, the weight of the overall wheel and tire package increases, thereby increasing unsprung weight.

If you're not interested in a BBK from Brembo, you can always try StopTech from DaveZ. I have no idea of the cost, but I'm betting $6-8,000 is not far off.

As long as you aren't street racing in heavy traffic, you don't need big brakes. (recommended, but not necessary) However, the weight of your wheels will increase your stock brakeing distance and generate way more heat. I recommend a drilled and slotted set-up with some premium pads. All 4 rotors should run $400-500 and pads should run $100-150. (compared to $4500+ for bbk) Check out the following:

Chrysler 300C Products: StopTech big brake kits, stainless steel braided brake lines, Tires
R1 Concepts Inc. - Discount Performance Brake Rotors

Getting a new car??

I would say, you get what you pay for... most big brake kits are mostly in the same range as the Brembo's.... at least if you want them to work...

Chrysler 300C Products: StopTech big brake kits, stainless steel braided brake lines, Tires $4995

Brembo's are a bit more than Stoptech's but I can give you a sweet deal on a front kit.

Let me know if you have any questions
