Please Help! Doing Brake Install Right Now

Hi guys. I am out there doing a rotor swap and new pads and have run into a big problem. The two pistons in the calipers are fully extended and I don't know how to get them to recess. I have the car up on jacks and only one side removed. I have to start the car and thus hit the brake and the pistons are almost all the way out and will not go back in.

How do I get them to retract? Is there a pressure release valve or something? Seriously guys, I really need your help.

Ok here goes.

You will need the following tools - G clamp and a flat peice of wood about 1cm x 3cm x 10cm (strong)

1. Loosen the brake reservoir cap.
2. Place rags underneath to catch any overflow
3. Go to the caliper you are having problems with and place the block of wood across the 2 pistons.
4. Using your G clamp slowly slowly wind it in making sure that both calipers are going in evenly untill the are fully compressed.

If they are not, loosen the clamp and follow steps 3 & 4 on the caliper sticking out the furthest until the are even again.

Make sure to check the fluids once you are finished and DO NOT pump the brake pedal until iit is all re assembled.

Hope that helps.

try opening the brake fluid bottle under the hood if you haven't already. next go get yourself a good set of c-clamps and a couple block of wood and clamp them slowly and they should retract. a little old school i know. it worked for me.

Even as I do it slowly, it is not depressing. Could I just bleed the brakes instead? Wouldn't that work?

It will go in trust me. It will be extremely tight. Once it starts it will get easier.

Ok, I trust you. Let me try harder.

The cap under the hood is off. I have wood on the one piston for now because it is out about double the other one. When it meets it will put the wood on both and c clamp it more.

Brb. And thanks for the help so far. Beer is on me.

You don't need any of that. Do you have the e brake off? Anyway, you should be able to put pressure on the pistons and they will slowly depress. If you have to, put a large screw driver and pry to the side. There is no reason why they will not push back into place. Are you sure you are pushing on the right part?
