Unhappy Damm I have a cracked 22" rim

problem slow leak coming from my D/S rear tire. I go to the shop and shazam...about a 3/4 inch hairline crack on the inside of the rim from the lip to the cruve of the wheel. So I am po'd...and the wife is not going to be happy. Good news is I still have my stock wheels. bad news is I need to mount tires = $$$. My question: is there a process that can fix a fine crack like that. I have good rubber on the 22's but I am concern that a weld process may weaken the rim. Also if I go back (dang I hate that thought) to the 18's can I go with a wider tire? I have a 2006 300C with just shy of 130,000 miles (yes folks I roll).

I didn't know a thing about repairing cracked wheels, so I did a little searchng. I guess it can be done according to this article - Alloy wheel repair, rim factory alloy repair.

I just don't know if I'd have complete faith in it or not. Can't say I remember anyone posting here they've repaired a cracked wheel.

Yes I am concerned about that too. This folks are in GA so I am sure that the shipping charge would be a bit pricey. I will want on others and there reply but I am thinking I need to pony up cash for some 18" rubber for now. Any thoughts on that piece? Thanks again for your imput.

Yeah, I only gave that link to show there is a repair proceedure. Surely there must be a wheel shop in CA I would think. It's the car Mecca!

Stay 22's!!

Having my stockers on the car since early august while I re-finish my wheels is murder.... don't do it!

Goodyear comfortread tires for the 18's if that is what you were asking...

man i wonder if you can use that stuff that they use to plumbers use to fix steel pipes and shiz
I think billy mays sold some of it too mighty putty i think the name was, if it is water proof it must be air tight right?

I would not try it for my car. But since you dont want to spend money you might want to try it. If i was using it though i would put it on the inside of the rim under the tire

I got a good deal on a set of 20" with goodyear F1 tires for $727 out the door so basically i split the middle. The ride is nice as I am doing about 5,000 to 6,000 miles a month. My 22" are on the market. Any takers? The tires have 90% trend wear and the Diablo Reflections are in good shape minus the one wheel which can be repaired ( I thought about the silly outty fix but that won't be right).
