Before you run through a dozen or more CD-Rs like I did (luckily they are dirt cheap) trying to figure out why my HD was leaving some songs out of folders. There appears to be a max of 25 songs per folder. I lost my James Taylor Steamroller blues Live and SRV Sky is Crying live and others. I thought the HD was dropping them and re burned again and again. I then checked the disc in the computer and indeed all songs were present. I counted only 25 songs that would display in the Nav/REC system. I re burned with large folders broken into sub folders and all is right in my MP3 world, everything is in it's proper place. FYI for all of you who have been liberated with MP3 folders.

So, if that's the case, will the RND function work across all folders or just within the folder you are using at the time?
I put 141 MP3s on a cd yesterday and I believe it will play them all. I'm gonna go check now, though, because I've read something about this folder limit a couple of times in this thread and it's got me worried....

That's odd because I have 2 discs burned with 150+ songs on each, all in one folder, and my old 2005, and my current 2006 both played all the songs on them. Maybe you did something different when you burned the individual folders, not related to having the songs in individual folders, that was just a coincidence that made it work for you this time??
Odd is right, If I burned them all in one folder as a music MP3 then yes they would all play but I had no way to find a particular song easily e.g If I were looking for Eva Cassidy's "Fine and Mellow" I had to thumbwheel thoough 85 songs to get to it assuming it was song 85, it might be song 133 and there is no way to know when all in one folder. As a data MP3, I can access artists seperately but only 25 songs per folder which is fine as I have few artists with more than 25. Holla back if you have a better solution.
Well, I may have found an answer...at least I think I have...
I burned another CD yesterday (128 MP3 files on it, no folders) and listened to it last night and this morning in the car. I have the head unit set to RND. I did some twiddling around and found that if I select the "Repeat Folder" option on the screen, it plays all the songs. If I don't, it plays about 25 of them, then repeats the 25 it already played.
Remember, there isn't a "folder" per se on the CD, and, I'm just guessing here, but maybe the unit reads all the songs as being in one folder then limits it to 25. If you ask it to "Repeat Folder", it goes back to scanning the entire folder and makes more RND selections.
I know...it isn't clear what I am saying. I'm not that technically savvy...I'm just amazed I was able to put that many MP3's on one CD and get the radio to play them all. Selecting the "Repeat Folder" option was the only change I've made. So that tells me there's something to it.
Try it...YMMV.

Actually, that's a great idea. I tend to make Mix CD's, in no particular order, and play them that way. And it's an eclectic mix, too. Everything from Abba to ZZTOP and everything in between, including mixed genres. Old, new, country, classical, jazz, etc...You never know what's coming next until the song info is displayed on the screen.
But I like your idea for managing and finding specific music on a CD.

I don't know what the max number of songs that can be in a folder but I put 15 songs in each folders, 5 total each in it's own category such as rap, easy listening, classical, rock and no country
Good points guys, My music MP3s are non folder and will play songs as they come up, you never know, which can be interesting. RND will do the same thing but NOT with folders, RND only will work within the folder, it won't jump to other folders unfortunately.
More often than not I will find myself in the mood for Country or R&B or pop oldies and use the data Mp3 folders very frequently though at times I miss the variety of random (not so much that I would ever go without folders).
Makes me wish for a glove box mounted AUX jack that hides the MP3 from sight, allows full function of steering wheel buttons, displays songs/folders on the nav screen, and charges the MP3 whilst you drive. My buddy added this to his LX470 as a simple plug and play for $120, it even gets rid of the Nav disclaimer screen automatically after allowing it to display for 2-3 seconds. Unlike a built in HD (My GIG which is great) if the removable MP3 in the glove box ever gets corrupted or fails, buy a new one for $100, not so easy with a built in HD that is tied to other functions.
Dash mounted Aux jacks with an Ipod holder on the console are a poor unsightly solution that is about 5 years too late. It's like having a mid 80s cell phone mounted on the console. It begs some loser to smash and grab it the one time you forget to put it away.
