Nav System Question??

Just found this forum. I have asked this on the other 2 300 forums I have been on, and got no answers. No traffic on them doesn't help either. Now for the question: Is there a way to fix the nav system so that addresses, etc., can be inputted while the car is moving down the road? I realize the reason you can't, so you aren't messing with it when driving, but it is ridiculous that the passenger can't even do it! It sucks having to stop all the time to input stuff when someone is sitting there that could be inputting it while rolling down the highway! Someone out there has to have figured out how to beat the system by now......Please???

but there are things in the works
forum member jonW has a working prototype unit that kills the nag screen as well as a bunch of other cool stuff. I think Rogue & FatChance might be the guinea pigs but I'm not sure..

The European version does have that capability and it is just plain stupid that the US dealers are not able to change this for the customers. But in fact, as far as I recall, I never read that anybody tried asking them. Or did anybody try to go that way?

Or perhaps Chrysler feels that we in Europe are just better drivers (grinning and ducking)

They just know that US drivers are more likely to sue when they wreck while using it going down the road, and talking on their cell phone, while drinking a cup of coffee, eating a donut, reading the paper, and shaving. All at the same time.

It's a DOT regulation, so it's the law...stupid as hell.

I forgot what car I was in (i think it was a 2001-2 model BMW), but you could input stuff while moving.

Honestly, they should wire the nav systems up to the passenger airbag weight sensor, so if someone is sitting there, the nav can be operated while in motion.

Yeah, so I can keep a permanently filled backpack there so that I can bypass the system.
