Canada Bell Mobility Bluetooth phones

Does anyone have any of the following bluetooth phones from Bell Mobility? I am wondering how well they integrate with the factory uconnect. The phones are:

1. Motorola RAZR V3c
2. Motorola E815
3. Samsung a920

According to http://www.jciblueconnect.com, the V3c is the most compatible, the E815 is mostly compatible (no battery level, call transfer or data calling), and the Samsung is completely incompatible. Unfortunately, the Samsung seems to be the better phone. Does anyone have any experience pairing up the Samsung a920?

Thanks!

I believe Rambit has has some input on Bell phones and will probably chime in.

I am with Rogers and have had no problems and I have a cheap (no cost) Sony Erickkson T616 and it works great!!!!!!

Hi FC:

I too am with Bell Mobility and am locked into a contract. When I purchased my phone, there were only 3 models available. I opted for the Audiovox 6600 with Windows Mobile because I didn't care for the other choices. It's a nice phone, but a little overkill and it cost me over $1000 including taxes & a 3 year replacement warranty. I've had no problems with it and it interacts just fine.

This is the most up to date list of compatable phones I can come up with. I couldn't find a more recent list on the Chrysler site and I would imagine there's more to the list. For instance I couldn't find any info on the Samsung a920.

These approved phones have been tested and approved in accordance with UConnect™ interoperability standards. Johnson Controls and Chrysler are not responsible for irregular software or hardware issues these phones may experience that are outside of our testing scope.

New phones for the list!

Thanks Rambit,

But this list looks like the jcconnect list which to me looks like an old list (these are mostly old phones). They say on the web site that it is an updated list, but I don't think so. Can anyone add in their experiences? As well, more than just connecting, can you tell us what features are supported (signal strength, battery, caller ID).

My understanding is that the V3c (not to be cnfused with th V3) is very bluetooth enabled (for the educated the DUN, Obex, and headset profiles are enabled). Obex means that you can transfer your contacts in Microsoft Outlook to the phone using bluetooth and some special software.

Yeah, I searched quite a while for an updated list to no avail. The 6600 is capable of transferring your contact list using ActiveSync and there's even a free add on available for Outlook (not to be confused with Outlook Express) called Business Tools for both the device & your PC. Whenever you attach your phone to the charger and connect the USB to your PC, it will update business contacts, tasks, appointments, e-mail and files you select to share etc.

As far as I know caller ID is not supported by uConnect itself. All that comes up on mine is the number.

Thanks Rambit.

I think I'll inquire which phones the salespeople at Bell Mobility personally have, and then drag them out to my car to pair up their phone and verify what features are supported or not.

That's exactly what I did. I told the salesman I wasn't prepared to spend that kind of money for something that wouldn't work without trying it. They have a 15 day return policy anyway. Long story short, mine wouldn't pair and after going back to the dealer, they found my module was faulty. They loaned me one from an 06 300C SRT8 till the new one came in. BTW, being as they only had 3 phones to choose from last summer, mine was an easy choice. Hopefully you'll have a better selection to choose from. You may want to ask if there are any firmware updates for whatever phone you go with. That may solve some issues many of these phones have. I didn't have the option to go with Rogers. I do however love the UConnect feature!

Just because a phone is on the list, doesn't mean all the functions work. The phones will connect and you can use it as a hands free, but you may not get battery level, signal strength, caller ID, etc... There's compatible, and then there's fully functional.

On some phones it's also the difference in firmware. I've seen reports of the Treo 650 working with all functions, but that's after a firmware flash to update it.

Good to see Bell finally got bluetooth. I left them a few years back, because not only did they cripple what bluetooth they could have had (Motorola Timeport) the people that tested the phones didn't even know much about bluetooth. (When they ask you for training, ya gotta scratch your head... WTF???)

I don't care how good or fast CDMA is, GSM's ability to switch hardware by moving the SIM card, beats it hands down. I use different hardware when I go mountain biking, so the PDA phone doesn't get trashed. Bell charges you every time you want to move phones.
