Help with SGII Amp and Sub to go with it.

Okay guys I need your help.
I am going to get the stock amp from the SGII system but I need a sub for the rear deck.
What sub would work with the SGII stock amp.
I know I know, i should go with aftermarket, but i dont want to splice into any wiring and all that. i just want to swap and add the wiring and stuff.
also, if i get a sub to go in the rear deck, how would i go about to wiring it to the amp.
one last thing, will the SGII amp work with the SGI speakers.
Thanks a bunch

Don't know about the SGI speakers, but i do know if you're using a stock SGII amp, its highly unlikely that it will drive any decent aftermarket sub!

Not to mention, that the SGII amplifier has a 50 Hz Low pass filter on the stock sub, rendering it pretty useless!!

Your best bet, for a decent sub, would be get an aftermarket amp, set the crossover yourself and use a good aftermarket sub.

Or wait until the kicker sub is released for the non SRT cars.

THANK YOU!!!! I always knew it pretty much never fired but I didn't know it was that low. Wonder if it's due to a crappy amp/setting or due to the fact that the factory sub is crappy. Probably not something that can be changed on the stock setup is it? (I mean adjust the frequency)

Ive wondered that myself! I did find one song that makes the sub hit, (so far). I never really bothered to look, because i never realized how bad the LPF on it is!

If you listen to "Soul Survivor" By akon and young jeezey (hold reservations about the song, just know that it has a low enough bassline!, i can send you a clip if you wanna give it a shot). The sub sounded decent, nice tight bass. Again, no idea how it would perform under higher frequencies, causing it to hit faster. I personally think they limited it to 50 Hz, becuase the factory amp just doesnt provide enough juice to really control any subwoofer when it hits fast, but again, this is purely speculation.

I dont know if the crossovers on the factory system can be adjusted (if they could, adding an aftermarket amp for a decent subwoofer would be simple!!) I seriously doubt there is a way to adjust the factory settings, but would be very interested in finding out. Can anyone chime in here?

As for me? I picked upa JL 8W7 from the forum, to replace the speaker in the rear deck. I even paid more to have it shipped faster, only to be rued by my own ignorance! I cant install the puppy, because i cant power it! Ive talked to my audio store guy's around here (My impalaSS was a competition car, so I've made friends in the industry), and asked them about the Perpherial Electronics addon coming soon. This addon, lets you tap the line after the head unit, and add a 2 channel (enough for a sub) amplifier without cutting any wires, or losing any features.

From what i understand, the only way to really add an aftermarket amp right now, and retain somewhat of a decent signal is to sum the signals to the front door, and rear 6X9's (which i really dont want to do), or tap the line before it hits the factory amplifier. Ive also read that tapping the lines before the factory amplifier casue the amplifter to disregard uconnect and NAV. Can someone explain why? THe way I see it, if i sample the line before the factory amplifier, the line still goes tot he amplifier, I am just sampling it. I am assuming that a line sampler would use a high impedance, so as to limit the current draw? Maybe im missing something, can someone please explain?

If someone can tell me that i can tap the lines before the factory amp, and retain its features, i would be very happy, because i dont want to have to wait 2 weeks for this Peripheral Electronics converter, which costs 149.99!

thanks!

When the cars computer is flashed it knows what type of stereo it is supposed to have. replacing the factroy amp with another factory amp will not help...it will require the FCM be re configured to tell the amp what configuration to load.......if you want to add an after market sub amp there are several ways to accomplish this.

grab high level signal from both rear speakers or front speakers and go into your amp or use a line level converter if your amp does not have high level inputs...
If you have a kicker system the low pass is set @ 70hz lowpass
if you need a 12 volt turn on it can be found on the factory radio Pin 13...
