Uconnect and the Treo 650

I picked up a new Treo 650 phone on the Canada Bell Mobility Network a few days ago. They did a great job integrating the phone with the built-in PDA.

But enough of that. How did it work with the factory uconnect?

Training was easy. I didn't even read the instructions. The uconnect girl prompted me all the way to completing the pairing.

Using uconnect is easy too. I just press the button on the mirror, and give out voice commands. I haven't programmed in any phone numbers yet, but the voice recognition software doesn't seem to have any problems understanding the phone numbers I say for it to dial. Quality of the speaker phone is good, but the person you call does know you are on a speakerphone.

Only issue so far is that just before it begins dialling, there is a short (less than 2 seconds) burst of a high pitched squeal (feedback?) before you hear the remote phone ringing.

Unfortunately, I may be returning the Treo since I must have a silent phone (vibrate only), and it just doesn't vibrate enough for me to feel it in my jacket pocket (no jokes please). If I can find a comfortable enough belt holster, I may keep it. Otherwise, I will be shortly posting my uconnect success with either the Motorola Razor V3c or the Motorola e815.

I wouldn't mind looking at the Samsung A920, but I believe it is not compatible with uconnect.

By the by, I forgot to mention that the uconnect bluetooth features supported by the Bell Mobility Treo 650 includes the signal level, but not battery level (it always shows the battery as empty). This information is shown in the EVIC.

Supposedly the Moto Razr V3c supports all the uconnect bluetooth features, so if I do the switch to that phone, I will report back to you guys.

I returned the Treo 650 and picked up the Motorola Razr V3c. No problems pairing it up to uconnect. All phone book entries in uconnect were maintained.

Both signal strength and battery strength show up in EVIC as well as on the NAV screen when uconnect is active. Signal strength seems to be better with the Razr as compared to the Treo.

Making calls worked flawlessly as well. There was no annoying squeal prior to connecting the call as with the Treo. Sound was excellent.

I do not have call display on the phone as I use the phone 95% for outgoing calls. But before I consider springing for the extra $5/month, does anyone know if call display is supported by uconnect?
