Question Anyone mounted a CarPC in the center console?

I bought my 300C with the factory Nav / 6 CD change and I'm starting to think this was a mistake on my part. I am thinking about putting a CarPC together and the floor console looks like a perfect size to mount the motherboard, power supply and DVD reader into. The other really cool featuure (literally) is that the aid vents is right under that space, so I could cut into it and get some cooling for the motherboard and hard drive.

Has anyone used that space for a CarPC here? I'm going to do some browsing on mp3car forums, but was curious if anyone had done this already.

Wesexcellence has done this. He has a shop in Daytona. PM him. He has been really busy and doesn't lurk around here too much but ya never know. The only obstacle is the Canbus.

No, I was actually thinking about whether the motherboard and power supply could be mounted inside the floor console between the two seats, to benefir from the cooling duct's that run below the console to the back seats. I was thinking about also taking a single DIN popup LCD and mounting that vertically in the same floor console. That would allow the passengers in the back to watch their own DVD's, browse the net, etc without interruping me while I dive, plus leave the factory Nav working as is.....

I'd caution you to not go this route. The obvious benefits of cooler air would be negated by the need to turn on the Heater.

Very good point, but being in Florida the cool air is flowing most of the time :-)

I could get around this by having a way to shut off the airflow into the center console unless there was cool air flowing. One of my buddies is an EE and can probably come up with a simple circuit for that.

I still like that idea as there is just the right amount of space in that console :-)
