300C GPS and Window Tinting?

I took delivery of a new '06 C with the OEM navigation system. Since I live in Florida, I would like to get the rear and side windows tinted. Most of these films have some sort of metal in them. Have any of you heard or experienced problems with navigational interference from the metallic window tint?

Thank you
Lee

Hii Lee. I haven't heard of any GPS issues with the side or rear windows. If you use a metallic film on the rear window, many have reported a degraded AM radio signal.

Hope this helps.

I have a 300C with OEM Nav & I put 15% tint on the sides & rear with no navigation issues. If I'm not mistaken, the GPS antenna is located in the front windshield or there abouts

Thank you both.

This morning, now that I've had the car for six days, it's off to get the tinting. I think I'll find an installer about 200 miles away, just to get in a nice long ride.

Be well,
Lee

It may be a bit late to post this, but there *IS* a high end film that's specifically made to not interfere with cell phone, AM, FM and satellite reception. It's a bit hard to find tho.

It's called "Pinnacle" and it's made by "Formula 1". It's the only ceramic based film on the market specifically designed for cars. (Huper Optik is another ceramic, but it's an architectual film.)

I live in Phoenix, and I've had Pinnacle on my 2005 for coming up on 2 years now. Best tint I've ever owned. Ran me $300, including taking out the rear deck to get the film all the way down on the rear window.

I have the Huper Optik, that stuff is crazy sweet. Blocks massive heat and i'm only running a 40% all the way around.

I had the tinting done yesterday, and it came out looking pretty good; I'll get back to you in a few days after I can open the windows a few times.

Have any of you ever had additional tinting put on the underside of the moonroof? I tend to keep the shade pulled since I don't like the glare from above.

Thanks,
Lee

Lee,
I have had the ceramic tint from FormulaOne (Pinnacle Series) in my 300c for 18 months now. It definitely lives up to its claims. I have the Pinnacle 15 product installed all around except for the windshield. The UV Protection is 99.5%, Heat Rejection is 58%, and Glare Reduction is 81% (from their website). Best of all, it’s also on my sunroof window and the glare and heat reduction is so good that I no longer shut the shade. I wish I would have put it on my previous vehicle’s sunroof.

Leaving the shade opened all the time definitely makes a statement for living here in the hot and sunny San Joaquin Valley. Even my summer visits to Las Vegas (even hotter!) don’t require closing it. I like the added fact that I can see things by looking up that can’t always be seen through the blind spots of the front windshield. I don’t think you can go wrong living in Florida.
Anyway, that’s just my experience.

bruno
