Pac-Audio C2R-CHY and SWI-CAN now shipping

According to their website those two items have begun shipping.. If i understand them correctly the first part number allows an aftermarket radio without needing the factory radio..

As somebody who hasn't installed many stereos since the '70s, I'm curious how "plug-and-play" this kind of thing tends to be...

For instance, if I wanted to replace my factory Nav with something like an Avic-Z1, and keep the factory amp and speakers for the time being, is it simply a matter of plugging these into the vehicle harness and head unit, and bolting it back in place? Or is there still quite a bit of additional work that needs to be done?

Local shops are quoting around $3K to do something like this, but it looks like all the parts can be obtained for around $2K online; is there really a thousand dollars worth of qualified labor involved?

Here's a thread that gives a brief outline of what the products do...

NEW! Ipod, aux input, steering wheel controls, vss wire, etc.(Threads Merged)

The "Data Bus Radio Replacement Interface (C2R-CHY) " is simply a wiring harness that goes between your aftermarket deck and the factory wiring harness that was plugged into your factory deck. You would need to feel comfortable matching up wires and soldering or crimping them together.... standard install stuff.

The SWI-CAN is a wiring harness that you would use in conjunction with another SWI-xxx harness for your specific aftermarket deck (look at manufacturers website in above thread) to retain your steering wheel controls.

If these harnesses work as advertised, it will greatly simplify installation and retention of factory features.
