The new navigation unit: Will it work?

So with the release of the Sebring, this little gem is out:

It has a 20GB hard drive, DVD capability, etc, no mention on standalone price, etc... So now that it's officially out, any notes on cost, or whether we can even plug that sucker into our cars?

It's honestly that, a mac mini carputer, or an AVIC-Z1 for me (future wishes, no promises yet).

Do you know if the AVIC-Z1 will fit into the non nav deck slot?

Oh and do you have good links to specs and install tips on the mac mini carputer?

That's a nice looking unit for sure. I mentioned this in the Sebring thread cuz it struck me that this should be available in the 07 300C's and if not, why not? I'm waiting to see what ResumeSpeed has to say in another thread.

Pictures of this unit have been floating around for a while, been on the Dodge website for months in the Nitro section but with no details. Caught me off guard that it would debut in the Sebring of all cars, and this unit is a huge leap forward for Chrysler. Im sure it will be appearing in all models as they get updated over the next two years. Not sure when it will appear in the 300, but it will play movies on the Nav screen when parked.

See, this is how they get you to trade vehicles. Start waving the next generation of goodies in your faces….. then you leap and trade. Like a drug I tell you! Now someone mentioned cooled seats for 2008....mmmm I feel a leap coming.

Cooled seats might make me, but knowing how car companies tend to @#%& with the purity of a design after a few years, I'm not so sure whether I'd do that or not. OTOH, we've joked/talked about considering another 300 when we get another car (which we will, though I think my mom really wants a 4 door jeep now that they're being made)... Uh.. yeah.

The Mac Mini Carputer is one thing still stuck in my head, for whoever was wondering, I had a topic in the car/audio place about it (it's a sound idea since there's a DC power supply that works perfect for the job, the machine's small and very economical for the price, and can do dvi/vga).. OTOH I haven't seen a single good screen to do what I want (either not big enough, VGA driven, or low res, or lack of touchscreen)

Grrr. Such as life!

Lemme get that thread link for ya

Avic Z1, BTW, is a double din radio, but it's not really double din, so it has an adaptor, and you stick that itself into an adaptor to fit the nav slot >_>

Mac Mini in a 300.. (carputer)

I posted a photo of the new unit along with specs back in February. The unit is model RER and is debuting in the 2007 Wrangler, 2007 Sebring and 2007 Nitro. Those are the only 2007 vehicles scheduled to offer it at this time. More vehicles will get the unit in the 2008 model year, including LX models.

I am still waiting for wiring information to see if the connections are the same. None of the vehicles scheduled to get it have started production yet, but I should have the information soon.

I remember your original post RS back in Feb. So they are going to debut this thing in a Sebring (and others, just not an LX). Interesting. As always, thanks for the great information.

They added a bunch of 07s to the service info for TechConnect, but none of the above so far. CS, D1, DH, DR, KJ, MK, PM, RG, RS, XH, and XK are the only models listed as of today.

With all the new items in the Sebring I am expecting them to add several new classes to the electrical master requirements, lol.

Where are the preset buttons? I like having the UConnect button on the mirror; no need to clog up a button on the radio for that.

Touch scree is cool for sure, but 20GB HD? Big deal. I'd rather have factory iPod connectivity like the lowly Caliber.
