Avic - D3 - Pioneer

Does anyone know if this new unit you will have to swap out the disc for navigation? For instance if I am using the Nav, can I still play a CD? Thanx

It looks to me as if the unit has only a single drive. If this is the case, and I am correct, you cannot listen to a CD and select Navigation destinations at the same time. To select a destination, the Nav disc will need to be inserted. Once the unit has learned your destination, you may remove the disc and insert a CD.

I believe you eject the music cd, insert the nav disk, program the destination address, it uploads the route and surrounding area, and then you go back to your music as you take your journey.

Not sure if it is two separate drivews the way that they sum it up. But looks like it will just be one drive.

Basically leaves 2 options
1- Pioneer Ipod adapter, This is what I did when I had the AVIC N2, just leave the nav disc in, who uses CDs any way
2- AVIC Z1, What I have now... 10GB of music storage, 20GB of maps and other junk

If you look under "DVD/CD Player" the first thing it says is "Drives Included 1 (DVD/CD)." It's a single drive player, so to upload a destination the disc will need to be inserted... Therefore, a CD can not be loaded. It does suck, I had a Pioneer AVIC-N1 until it was replaced with an N2 after countless problems. I hated them both. Most of the time they wouldnt read a brand new Nav disc. Look at some Eclipse stuff. They offer dual drives, and Hard Drives in the real high end ones. Also, Kenwood offers a seperate Nav unit that can be added to any of the DVD headunits that is all Hard Drive. No Nav discs at all!! Listen to whatever you want while using your extremely easy to use Navigation.
