Exclamation New Rec Model Has Back Up Camera Input??? Help

I understand that some new models or versions of the REC system released in late 2006 have an input for back up camera? I bought mine late in 2006 from a vendor and it has a small (maybe 3 prong) input just below the antenna input, is this for a back up camera???

Now, if it is.... Do I just buy and install the mopar back up camera like plug n play or is the damn computer gonne need to be adjusted to indicate there is a camera so whenever I switch into reverse, it shows whats I'm about to run over?

Any help would be great! THANKS ALL!!!

yes that is the camera input, but currently DCX only has the camera option on the Jeep line, and it is tied into the PCM so if the Nav unit doesn't detect that you are in a Jeep, then it will not activate the camera..

HOWEVER

Some are working on a software hack for the Nav software to fool the Nav unit into believing it is in a Jeep..

Stay tuned...

Should I wait for the hack or is it going to be a while, I was thinking about sending it off to Dom for the DVD/camera mod.

depends on your patience level.. I am working on a plug and play solution for Dom's Unit, rather that solder to the main board of the Nav, you replace the LCD ribbon cable. I have been successful in making the cable, but I have some sync issues. Running a few more tests over the next couple of weeks and shooting for April as a complete date. Dom will offer my ribbon with his unit as soon as it is available...

In-motion hack is out!!! Been out!! You'll need a dual layer dvd+r, not a dvd-r and a copy of the AE software in order to burn the patch. I tried uploading the patch here but error said it was over the file size limit. I think I found it at lxforums.com you can email me if you want a copy that I have:
tjayweaver@hotmail.com

I just installed my REC I got off ebay and it has the camera jack on it, havent got a camera yet though. Havent made the patch to the software either- just read the posts from others who have. Been looking for the dvds and havent found any cheap yet. I'm a cheapskate. $10 each is crazy.

Have been looking for cameras. I like to keep everything as stock as possible, but yet pimped out as well. That's why I didnt get an aftermarket nav and paint my dash pink! I have a dodge truck and there is not much out there in the truck forums other than 'em er big wheels' and such. Hell yeah!
Any info on a good camera would be appreciated. I do know that you can buy the 3 or 4 pin jack for the back of the REC from the dealer for ~$12 with 14 inch pigtail and then run your wire to the camera. One pin is for voltage sensing from your back up lights, you can run a constant hot to a toggle switch and use the camera down the highway, right before you break check that tailg8r.

Someone mentioned the nav not recognizing it if its not in a jeep. I have been told this is untrue (once you have the camera installed) only that you cant 'see' it on the nav menu until it is physically there. In the jeep it may show the option whether you have it or not (Commander and GCherokee). In 08 models many cars will have the camera option inc. sebring and a bunch of new models Im not familiar with. I will be watching ebay and the pick-a-part online to try to find a mopar stock unit. Keepin it real- stock.

My one question would be that if you are successful with this, would it be necessary to send it to dom to have his coversion done, or would I say, be able to just get the ribbon cable and install it myself if I only wanted the backup camera.

Dom will be using my cable with his product, he will be selling it as a plug and play solution. So all you would need to do is order the Nav 2 Go unit from him. I'm not marketing the cable separately, once it is done I will work out a deal with Dom to supply him.

I'm not even going to comment on this as it has been hashed out over and over and over and over and over and over..

oh what the hell:

THE CAMERA OPTION IS NOT AVAILABLE ON THE 300s, THE NEW REC UNIT DOES NOT ACTIVATE THE CAMERA OPTION ON THE LX LINE EVEN IF THE CAMERA IS INSTALLED, THE UNIT MUST BE IN A WK (JEEP) VEHICLE AND THE HACK I AM TALKING ABOUT IS TO FOOL THE REC UNIT INTO THINKING IT IS IN A WK MODEL SO IT WILL WORK.

as for the in-motion hack, well everyone knows who to get that from.
