WOW- Alpine Type 12R

I recently just blew one of the voice coils on my 10w6v2 - My setup is (1) Jl 500/1 with the 10w6v2. It sounded great, no complaints. Well I blew one of the coils because of some crappy mp3's i was playing and decided to try another. I purchased a ported Alpine type 12R Sub. I am amazingly impressed with this sub. It sounds as if the devil is throwing a birthday party in my trunk. Inside the car - the bass hits hard, and tight. This box is loud. Anyone have any experience with sub? Am I wrong for thinking this sub is better than the mighty JL?

your comparing a 10 to a 12.........right....

if so, of course the 12 ported will sound deeper with more bass response than a JL10........

did you use the same JL500/1 amp..........is it only 1 sub?

type rs are good subs, but theyre very moody. one minute theyre playing great, the next your picking fragments of voice coil out of your neck. They sound damn good, theyre just not sturdy at all. I blew two of them at one time once, listening to save tonight by eagle eye cherry at a talking level. the night before we werer riding around with it at full blast no trouble. theyre great speakers until they need replacing.. and ive replaced ALOT of them.

Wow thanx for the info. The JL were very resistant to all my demands for quite sometime. I am hoping these are just as resiliant.

theyre ok, but like i said, theyre very moody.. so be sure to use the proper break in, it helps a little. and if your looking for an amp, check ebay for a MTX 1501d series. they dont make em no more and they are bad news bears. thats what i had pushin mine. type rs are good for waking the neighbors, but with the 1501d pushin em, you can beat the whole block down.

alpine type rs are nice when working, I blew 2 12 type Rs on a mtx81000D amp. so I upped it to two 15 type Rs and blew those also lol. I ran 1 jl audio 12w6 on same amp, but it never blew, the way that 1 sub was hitting was scaring me though lol. so I upped it to 3 jl audio 12w6s and they never blew also. but every alpin I've ran has blown I just pulled my alpine type r 6x9s outta back dash yesterday because one blew, I originally had the type r 6.5s up front but one of those blew also :-/. so enjoy the type r while it last, if it last, then great. but when it goes out get a 12w7 lol.

Well take these opinoins with a grain of salt - I have had my 2 12s for over a year on a 1000 watt mb quart amp and they have not blown, nor are they moody - just there delivering loud solid bass every time. The beauty about these subs is even in a ported box they still hit just as clean as most in a sealed box

thats why you buy a warranty with subs anyway - its not worth buying on ebay - just pay a little more from best buy or similar and when it blows you take it to them and say here may I have another

I have had jl before also and I think for the money - these subs kick jl all over the block - are jl's better? yes but again not for the money in my book
