IPod Kit Installed, Here's how it went, questions answered.

So, I got my kit from moparsupercenter.com. It cost $194.00 + Shipping.
I installed it myself with ease. Here's a couple of common questions answered.
Is it easy? = Yes, I'd say the average person can install it under an hour. A skilled person in about 20min. There is not really any cutting or drilling required. They recommend you cut a hole in your glove box to run the cord but that's not really nessesary.
Can I mount my IPod in the console? = Yes.. There is enough cord however The work involved to get it run nicely back there will take you a bit longer, And there will be some cutting and drilling involved. I have the DVD player back there and things are pretty tight. But it could be done.
How do I get to the IPod controls? = It does us the SAT tab, here's how it works. Push "Mode" once goes to Sirius, push "Mode" again goes to CD, push "Mode" again back to SAT tab however this is the IPod control. Push "mode" again and back to CD.... and so on.
Pesonally I'm not an avid IPod user, infact I just got mine and still learning how to use it. From the looks of things I'm not sure how to shuffle or use many of the options, but the sound quality is superb.
Whats the downfall? = It is true that you loose your SAT presets. This would be a nice fix for the next version. You can set the presets and they work while your in SAT mode, but as soon as you switch to another mode they are erased. Chan 1 is Chan 1 and the rest are, I believe 184.
However here's what I did. The IPod kit comes with the IPod plug, but it also comes with an AUX imput plug. Personally I'm not really a fan of Sirius. I have XM in all my other vehicles. So I put am XM tuner under my stering wheel and ran it through the AUX port. When you unplug the IPod it makes the AUX port active, whallllah... XM with presets that work and is within reaching distance mounted under the wheel. I had this previously ran through the VES ports, however the sound quality is much better through the IPod Kit.
All in all this kit is pretty nice and easy to do. I highly recommend it if your thinking about it. My recommendation... Do not have the dealer install it. You can do it in under an hour and be rockin'.
