I'm leaning towards the D3 myself. Haven't done it yet though. The guy at the automotive electronics store has a stock nav hanging around that he wants to sell me. I'd be saving some money but I think I like the Pioneer better. Check out the thread I started under "Nav choice". You will see some of the folks opinions. They make a lot of sence.

Are you going to do the install yourself?
I would attempt it but am not 100% confident. Thats why I will probably buy from the shop and let them install. Anything wrong happens and I'll hand it right back to them! We'll see what happens once I make a decision.

with some high-end systems, the warranty is severly limited, if not voided, if you do the install yourself. i know the installation manual for the pioneer avic n2 says that warranty is void if its installed by someone who is not trained/qualified.

i don't know how they'd enforce this, but they may ask for a copy of the reciept from installation if you ever have to send it back.

installing really sophistocated head units isnt really THAT hard. for the N2 i had to find the speed sensor wire and tap into it (for the GPS) and also the parking brake wire and reverse switch for the rear view camera. not necessarily hard, it just took a lot of time to take apart the car, find the correct wires, and install everything neatly/cleanly.

if you decide to do it yourself, get some zip ties to keep the wires bundled together in a neat/clean package. i like to label my RCAs and stuff like that too. just a strip of masking tape and a marker do the job.
