Has anyone hard wired their portable nav system?

Imabout ti recive my Portable Pioneer Nav system.I was thinkin of installing it in the sunglasses compartment,and would love to hard wire it....is that possible?how would i go about doing this and what would be the best place to hard wire it to?I know some people hard wire their Radar detectors to the rear view mirror....would that work with the portable nav?
