Cool 6 Disc Changer/SAT/VES - MP3 Player & Random CD Play

Got a noob question or two regarding the Sales Code RAK stock unit.

I use the NAV, have the VES, use the CD player. When you select RND function, it only selects tracks randomly from the currently playing CD (say Slot 2) and does not randomly select tracks across all 6 CD's. The manual says, "Press this button while the CD is playing to activate Random Play. This feature plays the selections on the compact disc in random order..."

Is there something missing in the instructions or can you not have the unit play random tracks from all 6 CD's?

Second noob question: Given my existing radio, how can I play an MP3 player? Do I have to disable one of the outputs (CD, SAT, VES) and use that to provide an input to the head unit for an auxilary MP3 player?

Sorry if I've asked questions previously answered here. I read through all the posts I could find on incorporating an auxilary input for an MP3 player and found no clear answer. Or at least an answer I understood. I'm no audio expert...I just like loud, random music!

The output on my player (Creative Labs Zen VisionM, 30GB) is a mini headphone jack. There is no audio interface in the bottom of the player. That interface is for downloading songs or charging the player only.

Thanks for any help and info you can provide!

the Random feature sucks, not only will it only play the current CD if that
CD is an MP3 disc then it will only randomize the current folder, and if you chose random/repeat then it only plays a hand full of songs from that folder, not all of them

Thanks, iNCREDIBLE. Well, that helps me make the decision to disable the CD changer in favor of a component that will use that circuit to provide an input for the MP3 player, if that is what you have to do to be able to use one.

Someone more knowledgeable please correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you just plug the mp3 player into RCA input on the VES? I don't have VES, so I can't be sure of that, but I thought that's how people used video game systems, iPod videos, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion, CCDUBYA. I tried that.

The input jack on the VES is different from mini headphone jack output of the mp3 player. I suppose something could be cobbled together at one end of the cable to match the different RCA/mini headphone connections.

Ahhh, my mistake... I hadn't noticed the mini-jack part of your original post. Sounds like Ultimate has some good options, though. GOOD LUCK!

Thanks, Mike. I'll go looking for the cord with the RCA on one end and the mini headphone jack on the other.

Since I can't do anything with the CD changer random mode (random on one disc vs. all 6) I may just disable the CD changer and wire in an aux jack into the inside of the console and use a mini headphone to mini headphone connection. I already have that cord as I used it in my truck and my dearly departed ImpalaSS.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys!!!
