I am not expert by any means, but it's always a good idea to run a cap. If you dont you might want to check into upgrading the alternator. Make sure you use atleast a 4 gauge wiring kit and if possible a 0 gauge. That way you know at all times your car is going to be able to produce the power for these amps.

I have a ported 10w7 (factory box) with a 500/1 JL. And the box is giant!!! Right now I just have a Toyota Camry....the trunk isn't as big as the 300's but still...two 12's would take up most of the trunk I would think. Also I was talking to a guy in a little audio shop and he said a 10w7 ported gets as loud as a 12w7 without a port. Sound quality being very close.

I have on JLw7 running with the JL 1000/1.. go with the 1000/1, you need the power.. no point in getting a w7 if you're not going to use the power that it can provide...

Conceptb,

You said on your first post that you don't want or need ear splitting bass. Save yourself a couple hundred bucks and get a JL 10W6. It does not play as loud (it plays close) but you still get superb sound quality. A 500/1 amp will power it nicely - more cash saved.

Unless you are changing out the entire speaker network, a 12W7 is overkill. Music is about balance, not loudness. I was ranked 6th in Canada (SQ) when I used to compete so trust the Chanman.

Best of luck in your upgrades!

I think 1 farad is lots unless you go with more than 2 subs and compete at all. I'm a strong believer in keeping the setup simple and keeping as little components out of the loop as possible. This keeps electrical noises to a bare minimum.
