Thumbs up Stock Navi install, a breeze

Just installed a stock Navigation unit I ordered from Ebay $900.00. I followed the step by step procedure by fellow forum member "Kcrnmale" and it took about 45 minutes to install. The only other thing I had to order was the bezel from Ebay $72.00, everything works great.

I also just finished up with a nav upgrade today. I followed the same example found in the forum. I got mine from E-bay also and it came with a bezel. Installed with no problems, but it is the older Rec unit with the part # ending in AK with an AB disk. My question is about the joy stick that I see several people fixing. Mine turns and I can enter info, but what does the joystick part of it do? I just put it in an hour ago, so not much time to play with yet.

Kellmyster, I played with mine a little after install. The joystick allows you to navigate between menus and to zoom in on the map. If you have the older unit the joystick is fragile and many have broken. The newer models are made a little better to withstand the usage, although I have heard of some new model joysticks breaking. I will try not to exert to much pressure when using the joystick through menus. Did you get a user guide?

I to can zoom in and out, and move between menu's. It turns with little clicks, but when picking a destination it gives you the option of picking a spot on the map. The screen then puts an additional circle on the map that I assume I should be able to move around with the joystick part, I can't. If it is just a knob to turn as the others do, it works, but if it is truly a joystick it does not. This may be common, I don't really know, but I have seen how to fix them in the forum, so somethings not right about them.

Get otta here. What a coincidence. I just installed one I got off eBay for 800 bucks, using the same instructions from Kcrnmale's post. I took my own sweet time deciding which Bezel to go with so now I have to wait for it to arrive to complete the install. I took lots of really big pictures and will upload them to photobucket and post links when I get it finished. I got on here to see if it is similarly easy to swap out the single cd player for the six disc changer. I plan to give mine to a friend who drives a touring model, but only if it is a simple swap.
I had to get back on here to find out how to open the little tab to install the nav disk. My REC unit was listed as 'new condition' on eBay and the disk is an AD disk so I figured that is the one that my car would have come with, since members of the forum were still waiting on the AE disk when I bought my car. I am looking forward to having fun playing with my new toy.

I dont even really use that option anyway. Just program in the destination and go. Before you know it you will be the same way.

I did this mod about quite some time ago....now all of you new OEM installers need to obtain the "nav hack disc"
