no edead fat mat sucks....what about dynamat

so i acted cheap and got the edead well suprise suprise it fell off in the summer heat so i sucked it up and bought the fat mat whitch not only didnt stay put as long but also didnt deaden the sound as well. i have the 5 layres still together and was thinking about trying to fill the trunk lid holes with low expanding "great stuff" and then maybe contact cement the sound deadener up and later get one of the carpet trim pieces on top of that to top it off. if anyone has ANY ideas or suggestions it would be supper appreciated.
thanks and remember- stay fly i i i i i iii till you die i i i i iii i.

wow! I have edead and dynamat right now and haven't had a problem with
either. In fact, I have edead on top of edead with no problems, dynamat
on dynamat, edead on dynamat, dynamat on edead. Did you pre-clean
the surface? using a roller to smooth any bubbles out?

I would say dynamat seemed stickier of the two.

another you can try is raamat, as it should also stick. you can
find it at raamaudio.com.

hope this helps.

i wiped it down but didnt clean it too good it was only 3 months old though so no alot of dirt accumulated, but yea dont get me wrong the edead stuck to itself super good as well as the fatmat but neither stuck to the lid very well. i had good contact and used the roller, did you possibly use a heat gun to tack up the adheasive? is your car in direct sunlight because that may very well be the culprit here... one more thing i dont remember if you did or not mr COOLV but did you use the expanding foam in the trunk lid if so do you think it made a big difference- thanks man and the input is always helpfull

Let's see, we had a heat wave and the car hasn't been in direct sunlight,
but I measured 110 degrees in my garage. The glue on my velcro
melted and my ipass fell of the windshield, but neither the edead or
dynamat fell off.

I didn't use a head gun with the edead but I did with the dynamat.

I haven't done the expanding foam yet. What I want to do is
have the bumper removed and use the closed cell stuff.

I can play pretty loud right now without any rattling, but if I push it
hard enough I can still cause the one rattle behind the license plate.
That's the area I would treat if I could reach it without removing
the license plate. It's very narrow and I can barely get one finger
in from underneath.

Here's how to find the area I'm talking about.....

remove the license plate. In the space where the license plate
used to be, push gently. You'll notice it's not flush against the
bumper there. This area will vibrate with base. If the vibration
is enough it will cause the fascia to vibrate against the bumper.

I have a temporary measure at the moment which helps for all
except the most extreme bass. I cut a few squares of closed
cell foam and wedged them between the fascia and bumper.
I could barely reach it and could only push with a finger or two.
That's why I suspect it would be easier to remove the rear fascia
and treat the whole bumper and re-install the fascia.

hope it helps.

yea i know the space your talking about behind the fascia i reached up in there and put some self stick weatherstrip inbetween there, what exactly is that closed cell foam you talk about. oh and the carpet trim you can get that from one of the vendors on here i dont remember his name but if you do a search of my threads you should be able to find him. i think its about 90 dollars. your dealer can get one too but its a little more.

Hi,

the close cell foam is very similar to the weatherstrip. In fact I suspect
the weatherstrip is actual a version of it. If it is waterproof, then I
would say it's the same.

Don't forget to remove that ridiculous cardboard rattle trap speaker enclosure under the rear shelf. Many of us did this in Summer '04. I Fatmatted the metal shelf but nothing else, I keep the MP3 player up so I don't know if there are more rattles/noise. That cardboard made the rear window rattle and I don't have a subwoofer!
