http://www.bestbuypcs.com/store/cgi-...ro d&ref=2062

Is this worth the $2,000+ after shipping and installation.
Any opinion on whats the best way to go?

Now that is a heck of a Nav unit. And it fits in a standard din sized mount. Pretty slick. Seems like a great way to go, for those who don't have the factory Nav installed.

The only problem that I have with any electronic aftermarket equipment is our CAN BUS electronics.

Unfortunately, I can't specifically enlighten you but the basic problem is our electronics are fully integrated with the entire car. You used to be able to pull a radio and either use the existing wires for your aftermarket radio or add an adapter for the same thing. Nowadays, if you try to do the same, you risk damaging your car. Furthermore, you often can't use certain features like our steering wheel radio controls. The electronics in our car are nothing short of complex and control everything mechanical. This is why specialty electronic firms are consulted to change or adapt the electronics in our car for specific purposes like audio modifications or engine performance upgrades. In a nutshell, this stuff is way beyond my level of electronics knowledge. Reminds me of helping my elderly parents work a TV remote control or DVD player-I'm slowly moving towards their realm as the younger generation's computer expertise takes over. Kind of scares me......

2000+???? do some more shopping around.
maybe some of the members with shops could get you a better price.
wesexcellence and a couple more.....

Alpine makes the SGII NAV unit so the AVIC may work with the controls. Before you buy verify that it can work with the EVIC(if you have).

good luck and welcome aboard

Ty,

sorry i missed your post.
I'm not knocking your decision, the alpine aftermarket is a nice system and if I remember correctly some of the members also liked it. I'd PM wesexcellence as well as look and see if any supporting vendors have an aftermarket.

For 2Gs I'd probably buy a stock NAV unit off of the site's buy/sell, from supporting vendors or ebay. If you don't mind stock this maybe the way to go for that amount. I think you could do better price wise

GLuck
