Adding a sub and amp. I have a few questions.

Hi everyone. I am adding a subwoofer and amp to my friends 2006 Chrysler 300 with the 3.5L and stock Nav system. I have never worked on this car before but I did do alot of DIY work on my own vehicle.

My questions are as follows.

1) Where is the battery located in this car? I was told that it was in the trunk so I am looking for someone to confirm or refute this. If the battery is located under the hood in the typical location, can someone tell me a good spot to get through the firewall?

2) Where is a known good chassis ground in the vicinity of the trunk where the amp will be going?

3) Is running an RCA cable down the sides of the car by the doorsill easy on this car?

Thanks so much to everyone in advance and hope to get some responses. Also if their is anything I should be aware of that might give me trouble such as taking apart a certain item or anything of that nature, please advise me of that. Thanks again.

The battery is in the trunk right next to the spare tire. The rest of the info you'll have to get from the other guys who have already done it.

Thanks for the Quick response Ben. That knocked question 1 out of the way.

I hope someone who has done this already can tell me if running a wire underneath the doorstep or doorstill is an easy feat to accomplish on this car?

Also is the panel underneath the steering wheel area sort of right above the pedals an easy piece to remove? I am sure it will need to be removed for me to be able to run the wire I want from the HU location to the rear sub amp.

Thank you

The battery is in the trunk like benro$$ stated. There are several good ground points already back there. There is a wire channel that runs the wires from the back to the front on the passenger side making it easy to run additional wires.
The door sills just pull off and there is a few phillips head screws holding down the B-pillar cover and near the dash.
The lap panel (plastic by drivers knee) has a few screws and then it just pulls off.
Overall the car is very easy to wire.

Wow this car sounds very easy to work on as their is no need to go through the firewall to the battery. It sounds much easier than my rsx type s which I did work on. I have another question now and since you have been so helpful until now, I hope you could give me an idea here.

1) I am looking for a good place to mount a remote mounted navigation box that I am going to be adding onto whatever head unit he chooses. I think it will be either a alpine or clarion headunit that doesn't have the actual navigation system built into the headunit. I am almost positive that their is not enough room behind the hu location so I was wondering where in the vicinity of the dash is their enough room for this unit and possibly other external tuners like sat radio to be mounted. Do you think dropping down the passengers knee panel under the dash would give me a nice area to hide things? Do you know of any other locations?

Thank you again for your time.

for these cars try and run all your wires from your head unit to your amps along the center console area. running along the door sill on the passenger side will create problems with noise because the main power line running from the alternator to the rear mounted battery is ran along the passenger side. so when i mean the center console area i mean just run it under the carpet along the passenger side of the center console. just keep it between the passenger seat and center console that will be enough distance to not pick up any noise. also there is tons of room behind the glove box. more than enough to zip tie any additional brains you might need. the rear seat cushion just pulls right out so running wires in these cars are a snap. have fun!

Thank you so much. I am much more confident now. RF-SRT8, do you find running Rca's down the drivers side doorsill away from the main line coming from the alternator to be acceptable? When you say that the rear seat cushion just pops right out, do you mean that the bottom part that you actually sit on just is held down by clips and pulling up on the cushion will unhook the clips? Also, do I just remove the passengers knee panel underneath the glovebox that is held in by that clip to access the large area you are talking about? Thank you so much
