Mopar iPod Intergration w/ new iPod Classic-don't upgrade firmware

Well I have a 2006 300C with nav and the Mopar iPod Intergration kit. everything has worked fine with my older 30gb iPod video. I recently upgraded to a 80gb iPod classic. everything works just fine. then itunes had me update my ipod firmware to 1.0.2....everything was still just great even a litttle better considering ipod response time while hooked up to iTunes

Then a few days ago "friday" I downloaded the new firmware for my 80gb ipod classic 1.0.3. AND NOW IT WON'T WORK IN MY CAR. as soon as it is connected the ipod reboots and reebots and wont stop. now I thought maybe it was just my ipod classic but I have 2 of them "one for my house one for the car" so I hooked up my other one and the same thing happend so....

the only way I can use my ipod now untill apple releases a new firmware updat is threw the aux jack that is attached to the connector.

So in the end if you like seeing the name and song info on the screen and using your steeringwheel controls to work your ipod classic DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR FIRMWARE JUST YET

Below are some pics of the rebooting loop I was talking about

man SilverBackGorilla, I wish I would have read your post a few days earlier cause I fell into the same trap. Things were great with 1.0.2 and I didn't even think about it but I went ahead and updated my iPod classic to 1.0.3 and got the same reboot issue.
Don't hold your breathe for Apple to "correct" this problem, in fact from what I read on some Apple forums, Apple is trying to prevent the iPod from working with 3rd party accessories (mission accomplished with 1.0.3). I don't know if this is true or not and can't figure out why Apple would do such a thing.
Anyways, I restored my iPod Classic back to 1.0.2 and all is well again.

GEN_XER,

You can get it from Wycoff. I'd avoid it, though - from my point of view, it's a bit of a pain. Can't use the iPod controls while it's connected, and controlling the iPod via the NAV unit is absolutely draconian. The only advantages I see to it are a) direct audio connection (it does sound better), b) charging the iPod, and c) integration with the NAVs controls (track forward, track backward). Selecting new albums is HORRIBLE.

I also upgraded my firmware. And now all I get is the "starting iPod communications" message. Blah. Yet another reason to rip out the crappy NAV unit and replace it with something decent.

Well I guess I need to do the same then. The FM noise is driving me crazy right now though.

Do you have the aux line-in option? It's passable, as long as the music isn't too soft (it appears to have a limiter/noise gate on the input).

Before you go on, understand that you'll have to reformat your iPod which means everything will be deleted from it. Make sure you have backed up all your files on your computer before doing this.
I'm not sure what type of computer you're using but here are the steps I went through with my PC...
I found the directory where the iPod updates are saved:
"C:\Documents and Settings\<USER NAME>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates". In this directory I found the 1.0.2 and 1.0.3 updates (file name: iPod_24.1.0.2.ipsw and iPod_24.1.0.3.ipsw). I deleted the iPod_24.1.0.3.ipsw file.
I disconnected my computer from the internet (unplugged the ethernet cable). Opened up iTunes, plugged in the iPod Classic. In iTunes, on the iPod window, I chose to Reformat iPod to factory settings. iTunes alerted me that it could not establish an internet connection and if I would like to use the latest iPod Classic software found on my PC (1.0.2). I chose yes and wa la..iPod back to 1.0.2! Then it took about an hour to transfer all my music back on the iPod. This was a pain in the ass but at least it's working again. There may be other ways and I'm sure if you're a MAC user you could do something similar to restore it back.
Good luck.

Note that the iPod integration kit also has an AUX input so if you weren't happy with the steering wheel controls, you could always resort to the straight up AUX input.
