avic d3 installation **PICS**

just a little write up on installing a avic d3 in a 07 base 300. i was looking for info and couldnt find much on the forum so i decided to do a little tutorial.

i already had the navi bezel and a sony deck installed:

i removed the back seat b/c i wanted to run the rca's and bass knob wire:

then i removed the bezel and radio:

i also removed the center console to run the rca/bass knob wire:

i already had a metra harness:

routing the wires:

connected the d3 harness to the metra harness and heat shrink everything:

also did the bypass to i can watch dvd's while driving. I got the info on this on avic411.com. very simple step.
test fitting the d3 in the metra installation kit: fit's nice and snug.

connect the harness: i ran the navi antenna wire to the center dash speaker location. since i have tweeters in the corner ones this was a perfect location.
Connected the harness and ran the ipod wire through the center console:

I had to remove this white bracket to fit the unit:

test fitting the d3 in the dash:

screwed down:

Watching some old school ninja turtles:

installed the bezel:

hope this is helpful to anyone that will be installing a d3 or similar unit in the future.

The only wires that i did not connect was the vss wire and the reverse signal wire. im not sure where to tap in for those so if someone knows please let me know thanks!

The VSS and Reverse wires are in the Adapter (unless you're using the one for cars without Navi, in which case its the wrong one). You can plug them right in. Without the VSS the Navi won't be real accurate.

VSS-Vehicle Speed Sensor.

The D3 uses a system so it can located the car even without a GPS signal based on the speed and direction of travel. Without the VSS hooked up, it has no idea how fast the car is going and can't keep track of it, so if it loses the GPS signal it gets all confused and screwed up.

Oh, got it. I have the same Avic d3 pioneer as this one in the thread. I have it installed in my Mega Cab Dodge. It is a great unit but the navagation SUCKS.

It does not get you to the destination in the correct route. I've tried every setting and still the same.

Just the other night I was going to a Christmas party that was located in a hotel. It had me get off the Interstate, back on in the next mile...then when I got there it had me go around the block and come in the front entrance. THis it what it does all the time!

I do have the speed sensor hooked up.

Even if the car came without NAV, the wiring is still there. Mine came without it too, but once I plugged into the harness everything worked fine.

whats the wire color on the harness for the vss? the only wire that was left out was a orange wire. is it that one? i lost the paper that came w/ the metra kit that tells you which wire is which.
