Speaker Installation Questions

Im looking to upgrade to aftermarket speakers. I have the BA 1 system. I been seeing conflicting threads some say the door speakers are 6x9 and other said they're 6.5". I've never seen 6x9 in the doors in any car. Does anyone know how to take out the rear shelf to replace the speakers Thank's for your input.

here ya go:
300C Rear deck removal - gain access to rear speakers - LX Forums Modern Mopar Muscle

if possible try to replace rear 6x9's with 2ohm ones 4 ohm ones u lose a little performance out of the new one because of the amps rating. Npnetheless 2 ohm or 4 ohm anything should sound better than some paper cone speakers.

the door speakers are indeed 6 X 9's. It doesn't look like it would be able to fit them but it does. I put in some expensive alpines but I took them out because they was no noticeable difference. The only sound being produced by the door speakers are of mid's and low's. I would suggest that if you change the door speakers to go with a 6.5 component set that is purely for mid's. Any stereo shop can alter the car to fit the 6.5's.

it all depends it is known that the underneath piece that comes out causes all the rattles and gives you the terrible vibrating. So this is a must but while your at it spend the extra few bucks and do the metal on the rear shelf too it will be worth it might cost you 20-40 extrra bucks but you will gurantee to get rid of the vibration, and going aftermarket your expecting to gain quality from the speakers and prob more midrange punch so the rattling could get worse so in short do the top of the deck and the underneath piece or just remove the underneath piece its not necessary but i would mat both. hopefully that helps do the job once and avoid the frusteration of tearing apart the deck twice.

i agree with nvmyc a component is going to sound better in most cases because with the included crossover it will send the highs to the tweeters and the lows to the midrange giving you the blend. BUT here is the kicker the stock setup comes with crossovers and sends lows to the doors highs to the dash 3.5's so running components you would have a double xover. I would classify it unnecessary unless you were actually thinking about running an amp then i would strip everything and go components but a simple speaker swap i wouldnt run components because your wasting money on a extra crossover that the average user wouldnt even notice and its extra money not needed to be spent. i say stick with a line of replacement speakers and do that in the whole car, for instance if your going focal do focal all around infinity, infinity throughtout the car and stick with a brands line for the same sound throughtout the car meaing if you go with inifinity kappas do the kappa line throughout the car. I would agree on going 6.5's in the doors just get the 6x9 to 6.5 adapter usually a round speaker will produce a better punch/bass than a 6x9. Make sure the installer seals the adapter good to the opening hole in the door a quality shop will run a line of calk around the edges of the adapter so you dont have air leaks between the door and adapter. air leaks lessen the performance of the speakers usually resulting in loss of midrange. i also dont deam it necessary spend the money to get 3 way or 4 way speakers because you wont even utilize the tweeters since only low frequencies are sent to the doors. focus on the midrange speaker if its one way thats totally fine but dont go out of your way to spend the money on 2,3,4 way 6.5" speakers. If your not familiar with multiple way speakers a two way usually means you had the mid range and a tweeter suspended in the middle. 3 way usually has two tweeters suspended in the middle over the midrange.

In regards to ohm loads 4ohm is said to be fine on our cars off the top of my head i cant think of some 2 ohm replacement speakers (i am sure they exist though). but amps in cars are rated at different ohm loads and on our cars you get the maximum wattage and performance at a 2ohm load (i am going to run 4ohm speakers because i have a good set). When choosing a speaker dont worry about getting the most maximum wattage UNLESS your planning to change out your oem amps. i dont plan to change my stock amp so i look for a speaker with a good sensitivity (my speakers are rated sensitivity: 92db). Also choose a speaker that can get the lower end of the wattage 20-30 watts because with the stock amp the speaker wont be seeing anymore than this wattage amount, sad but true.

Just installed my 6x9's Kenwood 4-way, the rear deck removal by todd0218 made it alot easy. The kenwood's are 4ways got a sweet deal from bestbuy $37 brand new last pair, asst.manager wanted to get rid of them(sumthing about 07' model). Didn't fit all the way flushed, but i got them in there. No real big difference except when I crank them up they are lot clearer, oh well. I'm put a amp to them when i install my 12' sub in the summer.

I'm not djh, but I suspect you can get them from Best Buy or
Circuit City.

if purchasing online, try Crutchfield, that's where I got mine.
