How to turn on REJ out of the vehicle?

Hi all.
I have an Alpine REJ (6CD 2din navigation European model) and i want to power it up out of the vehicle.
Unfortunately the radio doesn't turn on.
Probably it needs to "talk" with the vehicle through can-bus.
Is there any solution for this?
Is there any can bus emulator (hardware or software) or something like this??
Can i do something with my PC? (Like connecting serial output to the can cables of the radio with some software)?
I just want to turn on the radio with a power supply and i can't.
When i connect the power, i hear only the CD mechanism check and then nothing...
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The stereo does have to talk to the can bus. the car sends a message to the radio to say turn on and stay on every couple seconds (or minutes I can't remember). So to turn this on outside of the car you need to hook it up to a can bus network.

you can buy a device called the CANUSB (about 200 bucks). You'd have to solder together a wire harness (i used some parrot hands free device's wire harness since it had the right conenctor to plug into the radio) that plugs into your radio on one end and have pins 5 and 6 (if i remember correctly, these r the canbus positive and negative) go into a male db9 (serial) connector at pins ... 2 and 3 (if i remember corectly again). from there you plug your canusb into your computer (with all the drivers installed) at the usb end, and plug the db9 end into ur new wire harness and plug that into the radio...

Now you can talk to the radio... but you need to either write the software to send the "on" canbus message or use a program that will send a message repeatedly over the canbus (theres a couple programs out there that will sends messages and you can loop them so just send the "on" message every x amount of time) and it should turn on. youd also have to find out what the "on" messageis, its a hex number. This can be found easily enough on the net tho.

seems like alot of work so if you just want to test the unit id say its not worth it.

Thank you very much for your answer.
It seems you know well this procedure..
I found some cheaper (than 200 bucks) canusb interfaces in the net, i dont know if they will work...
Also, i have to find the "on" message...
Is it possible to make things easier??
For example, if i could connect the can signal of the vehicle to a port of a PC or notebook... Is there any program out there that records this signal, this waveform?? Then maybe it could be reproduced from the PC.
Easier or more complicated?....

The can bus messages are hex values, first is the id then the number of following hex value and the the rest are the data portion.

I used a program called "canhacker" it can record messages, and then play then back in a loop. this is what ud need to do.

check out CANHack.org | Help us help you gain access to your vehicles network! everything i know on the subject i read over there, its not a very active forum and if u post ill probably be the one to see it since i still check it every now and then but theres lots of info on there.

The "On" message u can probably find over there. Iin fact i remember a thread where someone did exactly what ur trying to do, started up the radio on a test bench. shouldnt be to hard to find. Think this is the thread. I think you need a login to view the thread tho
http://www.canhack.org/board/viewtop...lit=bench#p822

CAN id 000 (from what a jsut read in that thread, not sure if its accurate) is the on message and it needs to be sent continuously every so often or the radio will turn back off.

Hi Dannte0.
It seems we want to do the same thing..
But i am a little confused..
Did you manage to switch on the unit? Did you see the radio (for example) screen?
Could you switch it on and off from the power button?
If yes, can you tell me step by step the procedure you followed?
I have not yet bought any interface and i want to see if your hardware worked fine.
