looking for ample space in my trunk but also some bump
I've been a JL fan since my first car. I had three w7s in the trunk of my last car and it goes without saying.... it was loud. I dont need people to hear me across town but I would like something that I can feel in my 300. I had lost a lot of trunk space in my past cars and I'm not looking to do that again. I'm looking for the best sub for the size. I was considering an 8inch w7 but the box required is still quite large.
Does anyone have any ideas? For as much as I want to fiberglass it in, I cant since I sometimes need the entire trunk and would need to be able to remove it. I've heard the kicker srt8 sub and its ok but just not quite enough. I want to be able to feel the music but I dont need the cars next to me to feel it.
In the exact same boat, so I'm interested in the responses to this.
At this point I'm planning to go with one 10" in the rear deck with the amp on the back of the backseat. I use ALL of my trunk a lot for work, so I can't really give up any space since it's my daily driver.
Same here also - no 'real' sub right now to speak of, since I've got just the stock audio setup still (w/ the 270-ish W amp, w/o trunk-mounted sub). I was just looking at the JL Audio 13TW5 - wondering if it would be a possible solution to the space issue. It's a 13" sub at only 2.5" depth needing only .8 cubic ft for optimal enclosure space. Should be able to work that into a relatively small space.
I don't use the entire trunk that often, but coming from the Lincoln Continental I had before, which had a 10" sub needing a 2.7cf enclosure (effectively taking up about half of what's a huge trunk), I'm digging all this space I have now!
IMO, the kicker sub sounds like what you want ("I want to be able to feel the music but I dont need the cars next to me to feel it.") It does quite good bass and in fact 100w is enough to get your mirrors shaking.
In my own quest on a sub related issue I have come accross an interesting little document from mopar. It is the dealer instructions including part numbers to upgrade to the kicker system. If I recall my research correctly all you have to do to get sub outputs is swap the factory amp in any LX to the kicker amp, then get the kicker sub box, and the kicker sub amp, and follow the directions
